Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
After graduating Popular Music study programme, a graduate is able to handle the main instrument/vocal, additional instrument, keyboard instruments, acquires skills of music theory, history, harmony and improvisation, is able to evaluate events of cultural life and their changes, individually to plan and monitor his/her own professional activity.
Learning outcomes:
1. Knowledge application
• To sight-read music, perform pieces of
music by ear and memory (5.1)
• To analyze and identify the essential
music elements, traditions of performing pieces of music, style and genres of jazz and popular music (5.2).
• To demonstrate that a student is familiar
with the basic pieces of popular music of different genres and styles (so called standards) by performing them with chosen musical instrument/voice (6.3).
• To improvise with chosen musical
instrument/voice following the requirements of popular music style and genre (7.2).
• To create and implement individual
musical concept with a chosen musical instrument/voice (6.1).
2. Competence to carry research
• To collect, analyze and argumentatively
Interpret information related with professional activity and its environment (1.1).
• To evaluate critically the performance
quality of jazz and popular music and personal music activity (3.2).
• To analyze and evaluate events of
popular culture in the cultural music context of a region and worldwide (3.1).
3. Special competence
• To apply effectively and safely technical
equipment which is used in jazz and popular music (IT, equipment of audio amplifiers) and necessary for implementation and performance of music programme (5.3).
• To arrange and interpret pieces of
popular music according to the requirements of chosen style and composition of ensemble (7.1).
• To design and prepare individually jazz
and popular music programme for different social and cultural contexts (8.1).
• To interact with other performers as
soloist and/or member of ensemble depending on a role of an instrument in ensemble (6.2).
4. Social competence
• To present creative ideas to the interested
individuals in writing and/or oral form and communicate with them in Lithuanian or other foreign language (4.1).
• To communicate and work in a team with
other performers and concert organizations following the norms of ethics and regulations of law (4.2).
5. Personal competence
• To plan and to implement professional
activity individually and purposively (1.2).
• To adapt effectively to changing
environment and handle stress (especially stage fear) by means of imagination, intuition and emotional intelligence (2.1).
• To demonstrate matured stage awareness
during public concert activity (8.2).
Activities of teaching and learning:
Oriented on the development, development and creativity of general and subject competences: practical classes, lectures, seminars, projects, creative workshops, master classes, public presentation of musical projects, information search and systematization, etc.
Methods of assessment of learning outcomes:
Evaluation of learning outcomes is made by applying the cumulative assessment during the entire semester and
exam session. Learning outcomes are evaluated through the intermediate settlements: presentation of musical skills, presentation of the annotation, control work, written work, test, musical dictation, rhythmic dictation, presentation of rhythmic skills, project, public presentation and defense of the project, independent creative tasks, practical reports, exams, final project
