General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train midwives, who are able to organise and implement the care for pregnant women/women in delivery/postpartum women, newborn and infant healthcare, monitor women’s reproductive health in all stages of life, offering midwifery services at personal healthcare facilities that hold a valid personal healthcare licence, enabling them to provide midwifery services and (or) services, provided by a team of healthcare specialists that could include a midwives.
Learning outcomes:
1. Integrates the knowledge of midwifery and nursing, ethics, natural, social sciences, humanities, and other fields in implementing research-and-practice-based care of pregnant women, women in labour, newborns, post-partum women and women with gynaecological issues;
2. Conducts applied research in the field of midwifery enabling individual lifelong learning and development of evidence-based midwifery;
3. Monitors pregnant women and their babies during normal and pathological pregnancies, using evidence-based methods and advanced healthcare technology;
4. Provides midwives assistance and care for women in labour and their newborn throughout the delivery, as well as the newborn and their mothers after labour individually and in cooperation with a team in case of pathological delivery;
5. Applies training and leadership skills in the professional activities of midwife, individually organising and implementing family reproductive healthcare, midwives assistance, and support for women and their families before labour, during labour and in the post-partum period;
6. Communicates in the professional field and cooperates with a team in providing midwifery assistance and care; 7. Demonstrates critical thinking and a holistic approach to ensure safe and quality assistance and support to women and their families during pregnancy, labour, and post-partum period;
8. Reasons decisions adopted individually and takes responsibility in the professional practice of midwife.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The study program is oriented to the development of generic and special competences, and creativity: lectures, seminars, discussions, individual and group projects, workshops, case studies, public presentation and defense of projects, mind-maps, problem-solving, writing scientific articles, information search and systematizing, etc.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The assessment of the learning outcomes of the study programme is carried out during the semester and the examination session applying a cumulative assessment system. During the semester, the learning outcomes are assessed by means of interim assignments: tests, individual and group projects, case studies, information search and systematizing, discussions, essays, independent creative tasks, seminars, term papers, practice reports, examinations, qualifying exams and final projects.
