General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:

To prepare a competent primary school teacher who, based on the latest scientific knowledge and professional research, will organise the formal and non-formal education of younger school-age pupils in a qualitative and innovative way, based on the needs of the pupil and on co-cultural values.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge and its application arba Applied knowledge: Analyses and evaluates the educational experience and trends in Lithuania and other countries of the world, knows the strategic provisions of education oriented towards sustainable development. Knowledge of the regularities of pupil development, the specifics of personalised education process and its management, the factors determining the quality of education, and the importance of feedback. Examines and applies the documents regulating the content of education in professional practice. Applies systems and methodologies for assessing pupils’ achievements by considering each pupil’s individual abilities and learning needs. Ability to carry out research: Organises action research and uses the results to improve his/her professional activities. Plans, develops and implements the educational projects. Special skills: Communicates coherently, argumentatively and imaginatively in his/her mother tongue and foreign languages. Communicates and cooperates with student’s parents, foster parents, carers, and other participants of the educational process in a confidential, constructive and positive manner, shares a good practice. Develops students’ information and virtual communication culture by systematically developing their programming and digital content creation skills. Creates an environment which is favourable to students’ adaptation and overall development. Plans and organises the educational process in various forms, uses methods to create a learning environment that is favourable to the pupils’ experience and learning needs. Uses innovative educational technologies to organise the educational process. Follows the general curriculum whilst organising the assessment and self-evaluation of pupils’ achievements, providing feedback and encouraging reflective learning. Organises the educational process of pre-primary children creatively by considering their experience and educational needs. Social skills: Communicates and collaborates with others, works in a team, develops professional partnerships and builds relations. Explores the diversity of Lithuanian and world cultures and interacts in a multicultural environment. Personal skills: Follows values in professional activities. Reflects on the learning process, sets professional goals, chooses appropriate learning strategies and develops a personal career perspective.

Activities of teaching and learning:

Teaching and learning activities are oriented towards the development of students’ personal, social, research, and special skills, through application of cognitive, knowledge conceptualization, action, individual learning empowering, investigation and self-control methods: interactive/involving lectures and workshops, creative tasks, seminars, individual and group work, conception mapping, learning by doing, reflective diaries, essay writing, experimental situational learning, problem and project learning, and other methods oriented towards development of practical problem analysis skills, discussion, case studies, independent work, reflections, what are based on positive professional self-development and self-awareness. The methods for students’ individual work, tasks, and hours for consulting are provided.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:

The assessment of learning outcomes is a part of studies’ process. The assessment is carried out through all semester and at the end of the course - during the exam session. The acquired knowledge and skills are assessed on a ten-point scale. The cumulative assessment is applied. The outcomes of the study programme subjects are assessed during the mid-term assignments (written surveys, tests, essays, control works, creative tasks, projects, experience diaries, portfolios, etc.). The grades from mid-term assignments are collected during the course within the semester and compound the part of the final grade from the course. Each subject studies conclude with the exam or with the assessment of student’s individual work (project, practice evaluation, etc.). The final assessment is allowed only if midterm assignments are complete. The final grade of the course is compounded from mid-term assignments grades and exam grades. Each part has its own percentage provided in the subject description.
