General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To educate specialists who would be able to analyze and model the energy conversion processes, identify, formulate and solve the engineering problems related to heat production, conversation, heat, gas supply, consumption as well as indoor air quality, design and use new and existing energy, thermal equipment and systems characterized by high efficiency, cost effectiveness, quality, reliability, sustainable demand of resources and environmental impact.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge
Knowledge of physical, humanitarian and social sciences to understand the fundamentals of the field of study, to educate erudition and world-view.
Knowledge of the basics of general technological sciences and their links with energy engineering.
Fundamental and special knowledge of trend of energy engineering studies.
Research skills
Ability to find and apply physical science information and principles of humanitarial and social sciences in research and evaluation of energy systems.
Ability to collect data, plan and carry out experiments using laboratory equipment for energy systems research.
Engineering analysis
Ability to identify, formulate and solve significant research and development problems and tasks in the field of technological sciences applying analytical and modeling methods and equipment used in energy engineering.
Engineering design
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the boundaries of production, conversion and use of non-renewable and renewable energy sources, their structure, properties, function, components and processes of interaction, the overall integrity of these systems, their designing, their interaction with environment, independently identifying, formulating and addressing the specific energy engineering problems.
Engineering practice ability
Ability to collect, interpret and process the data using information technologies required to tackle the tasks and challenges in the area of energy engineering, having the skills operating the measuring equipment and laboratory skills working with the machinery of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, ventilation and hydraulic machines which can be used in professional activities.
Ability to apply principles of sustainable development in the field of energy, to adopt holistic, innovative engineering solutions, combining the costs, benefits, safety, quality, reliability and impact on environment.
Personal and social abilities
Ability of learning and self-development, ability to plan and organize professional activity, a holistic approach to processes going in the field, contiguous areas and in society, ability to assess and forecast the phenomena, their causes and consequences.
Display understanding of phenomena in a field of energy engineering, ability to provide logical answers to specific questions in the field of energy engineering, to convey information, ideas, problems and solutions, and to present them to various specialists in a reasoned manner.
Ability to communicate in correct national and at least one of the main foreign languages, use inovative information and communication technologies.

The results of the study program are implemented through study subjects in the study process, which can be found on the website www.vgtu.lt. The program includes three practices (18 cr.): Educational, Training and Professional, final thesis (15 cr.), two free choices (6 cr.). Among the main subjects and specializations are: Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Thermodynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Water supply and sewerage of the buildings, Fluid Systems, Indoor Climate, Buildings' Heating Systems, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Heat Production, Gas Supply, Heat Supply, Renewable Energy Technologies, Control of Technical Systems.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
Studies in Lithuanian or English, the possibility of Double Diploma studies, by studying part time at the Southeast Finland University of Applied Sciences, even three practices: educational, training and professional.

Access to professional activity:
Bachelors who have completed studies in Building Energetics will be able to work as engineers in companies, designing, installing, operating and maintaining systems of heat production, heat, gas supply and use, as well as indoor air quality assurance.
Access to further study:
After completion of the programme of Building Energetics, it is possible to continue studies in master degree programmes of Technological Sciences.
