Summary of the Profile

General Description:
objective(s) of the study programme:
To train teachers with the knowledge of the specifics of pre-school and pre-primary education who can creatively and innovatively organize education based on scientific knowledge, co-cultural values and the needs of the child and together with the child's family nurture the child's natural strengths and to promote the growth of abilities and achievements.
Learning outcomes:
After completing the study programme, graduates:
1. Will be familiar with the objectives, content, methods and strategies of pre-school and pre-primary education. Be able to apply them in planning and implementing the educational process.
2. Will be familiar with the principles of healthy living, human safety, educational management, leadership, and will be guided by the most important and relevant theories of motivation, learning and didactics for practical activities.
3. Will have an understanding of children's developmental characteristics and the use of different educational methods and strategies to meet the individual needs of children.
4. Will be able to create an inclusive educational environment, personalize the content and methods of education, and increase the opportunities for children with special educational needs to participate in the educational process.
5. Be able to select and use various educational tools and technologies in the educational process, increasing the variety of educational activities, methods and the accessibility of education to every child.
6. Will have an understanding of assessment and evaluation methods and their application in the educational process.
7. Be able to identify a research problem relevant to practice, carry out action research for the improvement of the educational process, reflect and analyse pedagogical activities.
8. Be able to communicate in the Lithuanian language and have at least one foreign language proficiency of at least B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, etc.
9. Be able to take leadership in initiating and organising education(s).
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Teaching and learning outcomes are highlighted using accumulative assessment system. Knowledge and skills are assessed by ten grades scale. The final score may consist of several components, collected in the study process (interim reports, self-study papers, practical works, examination or project). Course unit teacher determines cumulative assessment of the subject components and their values of the coefficients depending on the complexity of the subject. Study subject teacher determines and informs the students at the beginning of the term about the impact (percent) of each component (task, work) for the final assessment and formulates assessment criteria for each intermediate assignment.
Teaching and learning activities:
Teaching of the subjects of the study programme and the study of students is based on study methods that focus on the conscious understanding of the educational content, the construction of experiences, the linking of acquired and new knowledge and experiences and the planning, acting, evaluating and reflecting on the learning process. Students' analysis and evaluation is ensured through reflection methods: mind maps, structured reflection, reflection diaries, visual reflection methods, etc.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
Volume of general subjects of collegial studies is 15 credits: Philosophy of Education, Professional Foreign Language 1,2,3, Professional Language Culture and Rhetoric.
Volume of subjects of pedagogical studies of the main field is 60 credits: Educational Psychology, Development and Special Child Psychology, Basics of Educational Sciences, Basics of Educational Research,
Special Pedagogy and Inclusive Education. Volume of professional internship is 30 credits (Observation Internship, Pedagogical Internship 1, Pedagogical Internship 2, Pedagogical Internship 3, Independent Pedagogical Internship). Final Thesis of Pedagogical Studies is 3 credits.
Volume of the module of pedagogical specialization subjects is 90 credits: Creativity and Entrepreneurship, Pre-school and Pre-primary Education 1,2, Mathematics awareness and digital education, Environmental Awareness and Socialization, Development of Linguistic Communication in Children, Children’s Literature and Folklore, Drama Education 1,2, Children‘s Arts and Technologies 1,2, Music Education 1,2, Theory and Practice of Physical Education, Child‘s Health, Education Management, Social and Family Pedagogy, Basics of Law, Human Safety, Information and Communication Technologies. Professional Bachelor Thesis - 9 credits. Studies are completed by defending bachelor’s Final Theses (project) in the meeting of the qualification commission.

Distinctive features of the study programme:
Already the first-year students have the possibility to test themselves in practice during the observation internship. Lectures of pedagogical theory are held at the best pre-school education institutions that apply different educational methods.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates will be able to work as pre-school and pre-primary education teachers in all types of state and/or non-state pre-school education institutions, as well as establish non-formal education institutions.
Access to further studies:
Graduates can continue their studies at Lithuanian higher education institutions in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Law on Higher Education.
