General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The goal of the Programme Society, Culture and Communication is to train highly-qualified B. A. graduates in sociology who would be able to identify and analyse social problems and cultural processes, to expertly conduct sociological and communication research, to explain, compare and evaluate social processes and to apply creatively their research skills in the fields of communication and information science.
Learning outcomes:
1. Explains the main principles of sociology and communication science and applies them in the analysis of societal and communication problems;
2. Using the innovative sociological methods of data collection and analysis critically evaluates social and communication problems in regional, national and global contexts and communicate them to different audiences;
3. Uses the procedures of sociological research in analysing media information and offers efficient social policy and communication strategy-based solutions;
4. Applies sociological skills of the planning of sociological research, data collection and their interpretation by using quantitative and qualitative methods to analyse social problems and to communicate research results;
5. Originally and creatively combines sociological theoretical and empirical research methods with the knowledge of public communication in creating quality informational products, and planning and conducting communication projects;
6. Analyses textual, graphical and digital information; uses computer software programs in the analysis of quantitative, qualitative and visual data; uses innovative contemporary analytical methods; precisely and clearly presents research results and chooses adequate communication strategies with regard to a communicated content and specificity of audiences;
7. Orally or in writing in the correct state language and at least in one foreign language interacts both with professionals and non-professionals who are not experts in the field;
8. Understands intercultural differences related to the differences in values, perceptions and communication due to race, ethnicity, religion, gender and age;
9. Works in a team, plans and organises individual and team activities, internal and external communication;
10. Initiates, prepares and implements different social and communicational projects;
11. Creatively, systemically and critically thinks and acts with regard to the principles of sustainable development;
12. Possesses the skills of informational literary and is able to use new information technologies;
13. Is aware of the main ethical principles of research activity, scientific validity and objectivity and observes them.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
The programme Society, Culture and Communication is oriented to an integrated study of sociology and communication that will enable students to analyse social processes on the national and global scale. During their study, students will acquire a sufficient amount of interdisciplinary knowledge that will let them to professionally explain, analyse, compare, evaluate and publicly present social processes and to independently conduct social research, prepare and implement applied sociological and communication projects.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates of the Programme will work as analysts and communication specialists in government (ministries and other state institutions), and non-governmental (human rights organisations, etc.) and private (insurance, marketing, public relations companies, etc.) sectors; will be able to communicate information to wider audiences in mass media responsibly and ethically; will work as analysts and specialists in intercultural communication in national and international companies, human recourse specialists with special competences of intercultural communication, i. e. all fields that correspond to the changing labour market. Besides working in the governmental and non-governmental sectors, graduates of the Programme will be able to apply their skills in international organisations and European Union institutions (for instance, in the FRA – European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, EIGE – European Institute for Gender Equality, Eurofund – European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions etc.).

Access to further study:
Graduates of Society, Culture and Communication study program will be eligible to continue studies in the Master study programs of sociology, social anthropology, and other social sciencies and humanities in Lithuania and foreign study institutions.
