Summary of the Profile

General Description:

Objective(s) of the study program:

To train officers with fundamental knowledge of management, knowledge of the weapons required for the national defence and innovative technologies, specialising in cyber security and military logistics.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge and its application

· Knows and are able to apply, within the scope of his/her professional activity, the theories and principles of management science necessary for the effective management of defence technologies.

· Has the knowledge of modern defence, information and logistic support technologies and systems, their development principles and application features.

· Knows the historical, theoretical, legal and economic contexts of warfare relevant to the military profession and the ability to make decisions in the light of these contexts.

Ability to conduct research

· Is able to carry out applied research using quantitative and qualitative methods of social sciences, independently formulating research tasks relevant to the national defence system and its management, guided by the findings of the latest fundamental and applied research.

Special skills

· Is able to plan, organise, execute and evaluate the technologies and measures necessary for the defence of the country and for the logistical support of military forces, taking into account the financial, information, human, material and time resources available to the organisation, the State and allied countries.

· Is able to lead troops and units in peacetime and emergency situations using a variety of teamwork techniques and effective communication of information.

Social skills

· Is able to work in teams on joint projects, taking responsibility for their own and their colleagues’ performance, transferring knowledge and exercising professional ethics and citizenship.

· They are able to communicate professionally with specialists from Lithuanian and foreign defence organisations, the public, international organisations and the media in different cultural environments, in correct Lithuanian and foreign languages.

Personal skills

· Is able to carry out his/her professional activities creatively, independently and as part of a team, critically evaluating the knowledge and experience they have acquired, and understanding his/her moral responsibility for his/her activities and his/her impact.

· Is able to keep up-to-date with knowledge and skills and to independently collect and analyse the data needed to perform professional tasks successfully, with appropriate citation and respect for copyright and other intellectual property rights.

Activities of teaching and learning:

Lectures, practice work, individual work, laboratory work, reading literature, solving exercises, literature review and presentations, analysis of scientific sources, practical tasks, seminars, team tasks (projects), visits to organisations or visits by representatives of organisations, final thesis project, internship.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:

Written exams, presentations, case studies, course papers, individual assignments, internship report, public defence of Bachelor’s thesis.

Framework:

Study subjects (modules), practical training:

The subjects in the field of study (including specialisations study subjects, the internship and thesis) total 150 ECTS.

General university study subjects consists of 60 ECTS.

Distinctive features of the study program:

The programme is directly aimed at the future officers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The majority of graduates are prepared for the Land Forces. However, after the first year the best students may choose to continue studies at other universities to become Air Force or Navy officers (it is the only study programme allowing such a possibility). Part of the study subjects are taught in English (in the case of ERASMUS+ programme cadets/students from abroad).

Access to professional activity:

The study programme offers graduates employment in the National Defence System (as logistics and cybersecurity specialists), logistics sector and information technology companies.

Access to further study:

Successfully completed the Bachelor’s degree in management will be prepared to continue their studies at Academy or other universities for a Master’s degree in management or other related fields.
