E3. The sense of responsibility in one’s practice and ability to forecast the consequences of one’s own work assuming moral responsibility for the impact on the environment, on public welfare and on cultural and economic development.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Employed for creative-professional course units:
• problem-centred lectures and discussions (focused on the analysis and elaboration of a problem);
• problem solving method, eye-to-eye tutoring (focused on search for solutions in response to a real-world social, cultural, urban-architectural problems; case-study based activity);
• presentation of independent (individual and group) creative work: its progress and results; review, critical analysis and discussion;
• seminars and creative studio practice sessions take place routinely at the start of a semester, with a goal of giving a broader overview of the theme in focus; the end of each semester is marked by a public review of creative work combined with critical analysis, critique, feedback and discussions. Creative workshop is a format of joint group work conducted in response to topicalities of the day (visits and workshops by leading foreign specialists, participation in competitions and public actions).
• professional practice placements with the architectural design enterprises is an integrate part of the entire study process. They are periods of testing and deepening of specialty knowledge, of broadening of skills of autonomous professional activity. Opportunity to gain familiarity with the organizational structure of a company, with its operations and employment possibilities.
These methods are to cover the delivery of approx. 80 % of study scope.

The following is used for theoretical subjects dedicated to building the corpus of knowledge:
• problem-centred lectures, seminars, mid-term and final testing methods, with a broader application of cumulative evaluation.
These methods are used for approx. 20 % of study scope.
Student achievement assessment methods:
Student achievement assessment is anchored to the principles of validity, objectivity, consistency and transparency:
• In theoretical subject courses students receive informal oral assessment (in the frame of a colloquium, discussion) and a summative assessment for a written work (test, essay, examination);
• For creative courses, diagnostic assessment (primary closure/sketch), formative assessment (informal feedback during tutorials and midterm reviews) and final summative assessment (course work/graduation projects) are employed.
Students are assessed considering: the use of knowledge in practice, artistic-aesthetic, engineering-technological literacy; capability of autonomous work and study. The process employs a cumulative assessment system: a range of facets are embraced to evaluate the assignments of independent work, the final grade represents a calculated common arithmetic mean. The assessment of work takes place in the environment of public review, within the frame defined by provisions and criteria presented to students at the start of each semester.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
• professional-creative course units in the field of study (159 credits): core course units in architectural design and compositions – 24 credits, course units in architectural design – 80 credits, professional practice placement –18, research and final work – 37 credits;
• professional theoretical-creative course units within the study field (21 credit): course units of environment planning – 6 credits, subjects of structural design of architecture –15 credits;
• theoretical course units within the study field (42 credits): the history and theory of architecture, heritage conservation, the basics of urban planning, urban ecology and sustainable architecture – 21 credit, construction mechanics and materials, construction structures and civil engineering equipment, building physics, construction economics, law of construction and territorial planning –18 credits, methods of pre-design applied research and scholarly research – 3 credits;
• artistic-creative subjects within the study field (39 credits): methods of computer aided design – 9 credits, visual expression/rendition – 30 credits.
Specialisations:

Optional courses:
• specialty field – optional courses (18 credits): a package of general university study courses designed by the Academy and/or courses in other study fields dedicated to the broadening students’ world outlook, intellect and erudition.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The study programme is created major field (architecture) study and is focused on training a qualified architect and creative artist at the same time. Following successful completion of the degree studies, graduates acquire qualifications set down by the Law of the Recognition of Regulated Professional Qualifications and a qualification degree of a Master of Arts (Architecture) which entitles to architectural practice or another practice equivalent to it.
Access to professional activity or further study:
Access to professional activity:
Graduates can seek employments with the national and municipal institutions of territorial planning, with companies of architectural design and territorial planning, they can design, autonomously, buildings of low complexity or, under the leadership of an accredited specialist (project manager), develop architectural projects for buildings of diverse complexity and their immediate environment. After two years of work within their profession field, the graduates of the study programme are eligible to seek, according to the procedure set by the Lithuanian Government, Architectural Project Manager Qualification Certificate and start their independent business of architectural design.
Access to further study:
Graduates can proceed with third cycle studies leading to a PhD in Arts, they can pursue scholarly researcher or pedagogical careers at a higher university school or other educational institution.
