Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective of a study programme:
To prepare international-business field specialists, having knowledge of international trade, logistics, customs activity, able to organise independently and responsibly international trade, logistic processes, represent the and moderate for entities in the customs and other institutions, establish and manage an international business company in constantly changing conditions of modern business environment.
Learning outcomes:
After graduating from the studies, a person will be able:
1. to apply integrally modern theories of economy and management, by identifying business environment, solving compound economic goals in new and unknown global business environments, while being influenced by the conditions of competition and risk.
2. to apply knowledge about the processes and tendencies of modern trade, logistics and legal disposition of intellectual property objects, the tax peculiarities of separate customs procedures, while providing mediation services for natural and legal persons.
3. to apply the national and European Community legislation, regulating declaration of goods, their transportation, implementation of customs procedures and other sanctioned customs actions, performance of customs formalities, while representing the legitimate interests of entities.
4. to initiate, organize and perform independently applied and interdisciplinary research, aiming to evaluate the environment of international business, as well as to make decisions on using and developing the potential and opportunities of export-import.
5. to assess the legal environment of constantly changing international business, as well as general customs policy, guided by the principles of European Community law.
6. to establish a business company, analyse and manage company’s financial, material and human resources, business processes, taking into consideration modern management principles and methods.
7. to organize international trade, in accordance with legal acts, create sales strategies by applying the political provisions of modern international trade.
8. to use the standards of commodity description and coding, while identifying the origin and customs value of goods, while counting taxes, providing the services of representation and mediation.
9. to apply the main principles of logistics in the international business, to manage logistic processes while solving the questions of supply, distribution, transport and storage of goods.
10. to use applied informational systems, while implementing export, import and transit operations, while managing the movement of goods’ flow in the territory of Community customs and beyond it, while representing natural and legal persons, as well as performing contractual obligations.
11. to work creatively in a team, generate new ideas, solve problems of international trade and logistics, international interacting and cooperation, while accepting social and ethical responsibility; to negotiate and maintain relations with clients, communicate with business partners.
12. to perform responsibly and qualified in the area of international trade, to provide logistic services, represent and mediate in institutions, constantly evaluate one’s professional activity, knowledge and experience, to foresee the directions of self-expression and self-development, as well as increase one’s professionalism by performing in the changing environment of international business.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Analysis of practical situations and case studies, analysis of documents, scientific and professional literature, project work, concept and mind mapping, service organisation processes‘ simulation, task solution, document analysis, problem teaching, research performance, practice in the workplace, demonstration and analysis of practical examples, real problem solving in project activities, professional internships, preparation of final thesis, etc.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Cumulative assessment and a ten-point assessment system are applied. When applying cumulative assessment the learning outcomes are evaluated by interim assignments. Course unit programmes foresee certain structural elements of assessment, their weight in the final assessment, content, criteria and requirements for certain tasks of assessment. Studies of each course unit end with an examination. In the Final Thesis students demonstrate the achieved learning outcomes of International Trade and Customs Logistics study programme.

Course Units of the Study Field: Economy, Management, International Trade, Professional Foreign Language, Marketing, Technologies of Goods Transportation, Customs Activity, Customs Formalities, Logistics, Goods and Cargo Classification, Social Research Methodology, Trade Management, Warehouse Logistics, Financial Accounting and Taxes, Trade logistics, Declaring and Customs Valuation of Goods, International Trade Law, Global Markets or E-Customs for Business, Protection of Intellectual Property or E-Trade, Supply chain management, Intercultural communication/ or Consumer behavior.

Teaching and Final practices of professional activity are done.
Optional course units correspond to the values of the University and aim at developing exceptional competences of a student in order to form a unified portrait of a student. 4 competences of a student are distinguished: Creativity and Entrepreneurship, Digital Communication, Linguistic Communication, Personal Development and Career Management.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates of International Trade and Customs Logistics study programme will be able to create, plan and develop an international business company, organize logistic processes, work in companies performing in the areas of customs brokerage, as well as provide representative services for natural and legal persons in business companies and customs institutions.

Access to further studies:
Studies can be continued in Lithuanian and foreign higher schools, implementing II cycle study programmes in the group of Business and Public Management study field. Graduates, aiming at studying in the second cycle studies of business field must conform to the requirements pre-set by the higher school and in the descriptor of the group of study field or fields, have knowledge and abilities necessary for studies in accordance with the programmes of a certain field.
