General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
prepare professional bachelors who are able to take care of individuals (especially those suffering from existential difficulties), community health and spiritual well-being in accordance with Christian values.
Learning outcomes:
Upon graduaton from pastoral care study programme, students shall:
1. Perform pastoral work guided by the Christian concept of the individual as well as by moral and social teaching principles of the Church.
2. Apply the knowledge of psychology theories to ensure the effectiveness of pastoral work taking into consideration existential characteristics of individuals and communities.
3. Integrate theoretical and methodological knowledge of social work caring for the spiritual welfare of people.
4. Perform applied social research necessary to clarify the spiritual needs of individuals and communities .
5. Identify existential proplems of individuals and communities.
6. Organize the events fostering spiritual life of individuals and communities (techniques, forms, methods).
7. Develop the Christian community based on trust, ensuring personal security and well-being.
8. Apply the basics as well as methods of social work caring for the spiritual well-being of individuals and communities.
9. Constructively communicate and cooperate using Lithuanian and foreign languages in professional activities.
10. Accept responsibility for personal growth and professional development in accordance with Christian values.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The study programme shall be delivered for 3 years (6 semestres). Study subjects shall be evenly laid out throughout each semester, 6-7 subjects per semester. The studies shall be conducted in the form of lectures, practical workshops, individual work with a student and independent studies; some elements of scientific research will also be applied. Examinatons are to be taken throughout all semesters. Final thesis is to be presented and defended in the 6th semester. The programme includes three practical trainings and some optional courses. Pastoral care study programme provides various forms of activities (lectures, workshops, seminars, excursions, etc..) and methods (demonstrations, discussions, group work, project work, case studies, tests, etc..), which will enable students to achieve learning outcomes .
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Study results are evaluated based on total rating: IP – independent work – 20 % of the final grade + CT - control tasks - 20 % of the final grade + EG – exam grade - 60 % of the final grade. Practices are evaluated based on this total rating: GR – grade of practice report - 20 % of the final grade + A – attendance - 20 % of the final grade + PD – practice defense grade - 50 % of the final grade + AE - student‘s activities evaluation in the practice. The final work is evaluated based on these criteria: evaluation of the practical (project) part of the final thesis, evaluation of the written part of thesis, presentation of the thesis.

Pastoral Care is an innovative study programme in Lithuania, combining the achievements of Catholic theology, psychology and social science, which help to understand the individuals suffering from spiritual crisis or various existential difficulties and which offers them professional assistance.

The graduate will be able to work in health care and educational institutions such as hospitals, palliative care homes, nursing homes, day care centers, children foster homes, prisons, crisis and psychological centres, oncological hospitals, community centers, religious organizations, non-governmental organizations and others.

Further studies can be continued in university undergraduate programmes of social sciences, social work, psychology and theology; master's degree programmes in social work.
