Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train highly qualified lawyers who are able to work independently in a number of legal professional fields, applying theoretical and practical knowledge of law, critically and creatively thinking, accepting innovations, knowing and understanding the essence and purpose of law, who are knowledgeable and able to apply normative acts.
Learning outcomes:
1. Has knowledge of the basics of theory and history of law.
2. Has knowledge of the basics of international public and private law, European Union law.
3. Has knowledge of the principles of national constitutional and ordinary law and the contents of the key institutes.
4. Has knowledge of the basics of lawyer’s professional ethics.
5. Has ability to apply the acquired knowledge in the field of law in professional activities and when dealing with specific legal issues.
6. Has basic knowledge of second language.
7. Basic knowledge of some study fields of social sciences and humanities and its application ability.
8. Is able to carry out problem analysis.
9.Is able to carry out scientific – empiric research by formulating research objectives and tasks, hypothesising and verifying hypotheses, collecting and analysing data and drawing conclusions.
10. Is able to collect information from various sources and to analyse it by using modern information technologies and databases.
11. Will be able to analyse different kinds of legal documents and to determine their validity term, territory and validity for persons, as well as to identify specific legal rules regulating persons’ activities.
12. Is able to represent persons according to the professional ethics requirements and treating confidential information properly, by using internal and surrounding resources.
13. Is able to make critical judgement on others’ and own activities, knowledge and values.
14. Is able to use the correct written and oral language of the studies, to make fluent expression of own thoughts.
15. Is able communicate and cooperate efficiently with the experts of own field and other fields.
16. Is able to deal with issues arising in the professional practice in unbiased manner.
17. Is ready to take general ethical obligations associated with honesty and dutifulness.

Pre-trial specialization:
1. Is aware of the legal norms and can apply them in practice during the pre-trial investigation.
2. Evaluates the traces of criminal activity and makes expert assessments.
3. Qualifies the actual facts detected in the pre-trial investigation.
4.Learn to use the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Lithuania and apply it in practice.
5. Prepares procedural documents for pre-trial investigation.
6. Learn to use legal concepts precisely and correctly.
Legal service specialization:
1.Explains the content of legal institutes relevant to the legal service and the legal aspects of the legal service and its employees.
2. Prepares drafts of legal documents relevant to the legal service activities.
3.Analyzes, identifies and applies legal solutions to legal problems arising in the legal service.
4. Represents entities in courts, in relations with third parties, in concluding contracts.
5. Prepares drafts of legal documents relevant to the legal service activities.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The program aims at active participation of students in the study process, the aim is to create an active educational environment using a variety of methods: traditional and interactive lectures, practical work, discussions, problem solving, reading and analysis of legal literature, preparation of coursework and projects, etc.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The study results are assessed at the level of achievement of studies and in the tenth grade of the criteria evaluation system according to the Utena College's study results assessment procedure in 2017, which can be found on web page:

The most common form of assessment in the College is an exam or project, depending on the results of the study programme. The final evaluation of a subject is a cumulative score. The formula for student achievement assessment is presented in the study subjects list. Each lecturer introduces students to the subject at the first session.

General subjects (Total 15 ECTS):
Political Science, Specialty Language Culture and Document Management, Professional Foreign Language, Logic and Social Studies, Introduction to Philosophy or Sociology.
Fields of study subjects (Total 92 ECTS):
Fundamentals of Law Theory, Law of Lithuania Law, Law Enforcement Institutions of the Republic of Lithuania, Constitutional Law of the Republic of Lithuania, Administrative Law, Administrative Procedure Law, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Civil Law, Civil Procedure Law, Labor Law, Financial Law, Social Security Law, Business Law, General and Legal Psychology, Professional Ethics.
Subjects in International and European Union Law’s module (Total: 12 ECTS ): International Law and European Union Law.
Practice (Total: 30 ECTS): Law Enforcement authorities, Application of Information Technology in Professional Activities, Practice of Legal Document Management, Specialty Skills Training, Final practice.
Specialisations:
1.Pre-trial specialization (module) subjects: Criminalistics, Qualification of Criminal Offenses, Forensic Medicine.
2.Legal service specialization (module) subjects: Civil Contracts and Representation in Court, Organization of Personnel Work, Organization of Business Activities.
Optional courses:
In the third semester students can choose alternatively electives: Philosophy or Sociology. Elective subjects for undergraduate students are envisaged in 4th and 6th semesters. They have 6 ECTS (for each subject is 3 ECTS). Students have the opportunity to freely choose the subject they want to study regardless of the study program. A list of optional subjects is provided on the College's website1.
Students can choose from a list of subjects taught by faculty members from both faculties of Utena College.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
Problem-based teaching and e-learning opportunities are introduced in the study process. A lot of attention is paid to the development of practical skills.
Access to professional activity or further study:
Access to professional activity:
A law graduate can work in any public, non-governmental or private sector civil servant or employee (legal, legal adviser, legal advisor, legal adviser, etc.) who requires legal knowledge and skills.
Access to further study:
After the bridging courses or having accomplished the requirements of other higher educational institution, students have access to continue studies in the second study cycle with the view to attain master's degree.
