General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train dental assistants who are able to assist to dentist or a specialist of odontology, independently perform intraoral procedures within the limits of his/her competency, to ensure dental health care and prevention, to teach a healthy lifestyle and to promote the prestige of their profession.

Knowledge and its application
1. Holds knowledge of legal acts regulating activity of a dental care specialist, normative documents regulating a job place, environment and safety at work, national and international health care policy, principles of professional ethics, is able to analyse and apply them in practice..
2. Is able to integrate knowledge of biomedical science forming perception of human growth, development and health in professional activity of dentist assistant.
Abilities to carry out research
3. Is able to participate in performing applied research and to perform applied research targeted to dental assistant practice based on principles of ethics of research and to apply research results in professional activity ensuring the quality of evidence-based activities.
Special abilities
4. Is able to ensure infection control by adhering to requirements of normative documents.
5. Is able to assist dentists of various specialisations, dental hygienists in performing different dental procedures to apply odontological equipment, instruments and materials according to its purpose
6. Is able to identify dental and dental diseases for patient groups by application of different diagnostic methods and to teach patients and clients healthy living, rational nutrition, dental care rules and principles of becoming responsible for their own health.
7. Is able to complete professional documentation by selecting patient’s life and health’s case history by evaluating key vitality parameters..
8. Is able to work with dental x-ray and diagnostical equipment.
9. Is able to identify life threatening conditions and to react properly, is able to provide necessary medical aid in urgent cases.
10. Is able to plan, coordinate and control organisational processes of an institution providing dental care services (registration of activity of patients and employees, coordination, promotion, supply, etc.) by application of contemporary information technologies.

14. Is able to collect and organise information, use modern technology and information systems in dental assistant practice, properly treat confidential information.
Activities of teaching and learning:
In order to achieve study results, various interactive teaching methods (analysis of cases, reflection, interactive lecture, observation, analysis of best practices, making and reasoning assumptions, role-play games, etc.), independent work and related methods are intended in the descriptions of subjects. Methods of modern assisting are applied into the Odontological Care study programme: “four-hand” work (assisted by dentist or dental hygienist); “six-hand” work (two dental assistants assisted by dentist at the same time assists). In addition, practical skills are taught not only in simulator classes, but also in the College's dental office, together with a dentistry in providing services to patients.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The most common form of assessment in the College is an exam or project, depending on the results of the study programme. The results of College students’ are assessed by the ten-grade assessment system. The form of the exam of general subjects is combined (written questioning, oral questioning, tests, etc.), and the form of the exam of speciality subjects that develop special subject competencies is an objective structured clinical situation with the help of simulation and/or dummy “patients”.

Core and Compulsory Subjects (Total: 150 ECTS): Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology, Communication & Medicine Psychology, Infection Control in Dentistry, Biochemistry, Immunology & Genetics, Dental Health & Prevention of Dental Diseases, Pharmacology & Phytotherapy, Introduction into Clinical Dentistry, Improving and Education of Community Health, Basics of Clinical Subjects, Quality Management & Administration of Dental Care Institutions, First Medical Aid, Dental Diseases & Analgesia, Dental Radiology, Applied Research Methodology, Dental Surgery & Assistance during Implantation, Prosthetic Dentistry, Endodontics, Children's Dentistry, Periodontology. Practice: Work with Odontological Equipment & Materials (9 ECTS), Dental Treatment Methods (6 ECTS), Nursing Practice (3 ECTS), Practice of Dentist‘ Assistant (12 ECTS), Final Practice & Supervision (9 ECTS). Professional Bachelor Graduation Thesis & Qualification Exam 9 (ECTS).

Alternative Elective (6 ECTS). Subjects are develop general competencies: Foreighn Language; Search and analysis of scientific information or Research Methods of Final Work of Dentist‘ Assistant. For Optional studies given 9 credits.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
For students in order to acquire skills of dental care procedures and provision of services to patients, conditions are created in a “learning together“ team: dental assistant + dental hygienist lead by a practising dentist, and also applying an English training method called „dental team“, by forming teamwork skills. Acquired administration skills of healthcare institutions. Part of the study program performed in foreign language (English, Russian).

Odontological care study program graduates will be able to work as a Dental Assistant in all levels of health care in the personal health care institutions, with a health care institution licensed to provide dental care (assistance) services.
Individuals that complete the Odontological Care study programme successfully, acquire professional competences that are sufficient to independently perform complicated work and make the right decisions in the following areas: assisting dentists of different specialisations and dental hygienist; identification of risk factors for dental diseases and implementation of prevention programs; organization of the clinic's work and self-professional development.
Access to further study:
After completing Odontological Care college study and obtained the Health Sciences professional bachelor's degree, graduates may continue their studies according to university study in the field of health sciences study of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences or University of Vilnius or other fields studies at Mykolas Romeris University, Vytautas Magnus University, Klaipėda University.
