Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:

The main objectives of the program of history are to prepare a broad humanities scholars and history specialists:
• having a fundamental understanding of the various stages of the process of historical inquiry - from the selection of information, its interpretation and developed historical narrative construction.
• having competence in key historical methodologies and may apply special techniques of historical research independently conducted research.
• having a broad knowledge of the different spheres of historical research and able to analyze the problems of the wider choice subdisciplinary, spatial and chronological context.
• are familiar with related academic disciplines, research foundations, and problems, and are able to collaborate with other disciplines and researchers to carry out interdisciplinary research.
• having knowledge of past events, phenomena, processes, relevance of the present society and able to contribute to the historic heritage conservation and promotion and broader application of modern societal needs.
Learning outcomes:

After completing bachelor of history program will be able to
1. Have a consideration of historiography and historical sources of the information on its structure and classification.
2. To assess the reliability of information sources and the authenticity of determining historical facts.
3. To evaluate critically the historiography of the past interpretations and theoretical insights.
4. To analyze individual historical event, phenomenon or process, the overall historical context of the era.
5. To have consideration of significant historical developments of the wider geographical and chronological perspective.
6. To accumulate specialty self- knowledge in a wide range of historical research.
7. To use traditional and new methods and techniques of scientific research work in the test
8. To use other sciences knowledge and theoretical insights into historical events, phenomena and processes.
9. To assess past events influence today's social, economic, political and cultural phenomena and processes.
10. To assess the historical importance of the heritage for the present and the adaptation of society.
Activities of teaching and learning:

Lectures, seminars, self-study, practice, teaching literature, literature and analysis of the sources, coursework writing, thesis preparation.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:

Study results are evaluated during the semester (written midterms, the seminars, essays) and a final exam. Examinations take place in writing. Student progress is assessed from 1 (one) to 10 (ten) points. Exam evaluation from 1 to 4 is not satisfactory.

Language of specialty (2 levels), Language Standarts for History Studens, The Methods of the Historical Monuments Research, Historical Development of Poland and Lithuania, Oral History Research Seminar, Russian – Lithuanian Historical Crossroads, Historical Destiny of Prussia.
