General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To ensure basic academic pedagogical education, help them to master knowledge in physical education and sports also that based on modern fundamental and applied scientific research, to employ it in vocational activity; to form the elements of research activity, to educate a creative and inventive personality, disclosing itself in the global context and following lifelong learning approach.
Learning outcomes:
Fundamental social, humanitarian, psychological and general knowledge, making the core of the profession, its employment in different spheres of learning and vocational activities.
Understanding of regularities in schoolchildren’s physical, cognitive and psycho-social development and ability to evaluate them.
Knowledge of human body structure, activity of its major functional systems, understanding of organism’s physiological changes and ability to link them with the process of upbringing
Knowledge of theories, related to health improvement and stimulation of physical activeness, possibilities for their practical employment
Knowledge of theory and didactics in sports (track-and-field athletics, gymnastics, basketball, etc.).
Knowledge of how to plan upbringing of schoolchildren with special needs with respect to their potential, abilities and peculiarities
Knowledge of methods, forms and strategies for evaluation of schoolchildren’s achievements and their ability to combine them, securing their intellectual, social and physical development
Ability to inventively employ innovative information technologies, data bases, searching for and collecting information about studies, research activity and further self-education
Ability to identify, select, analyze and compare relevant facts and phenomena of physical education and sport
Ability to purposefully employ major qualitative and quantitative methods in pedagogical research of physical education and sport
Ability to independently perform empiric research, analyze and interpret their results, shape findings
Ability to properly master techniques of different sports, organize and officiate different sports contests
Ability to make long-term and short-term plans for formal and non-formal physical education on the basis of documents, regulating physical education, to self-dependently organize the process of education in accordance with above documents
Ability to individualize the content of upbringing, paying attention to different demands of schoolchildren, their health and physical fitness
Ability to creatively organize classes o different type in formal and non-formal physical education, employing different teaching and activity organization methods
Ability to employ health and physical education strategies, avoiding health related disorders

Activities of teaching and learning:
Formal lecture, practical classes, problem-based teaching, recommended readers, work in groups, disputes, analysis of research article, analysis of literature, seminars, discussions, small group tutorials.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Ten grade and gathered evaluation system is applied. The semester’s individual work tasks (Group (team) project, Individual work, Literature reviewing and presentation, Problem-solving task, Reflection on action, Test) are evaluated by grades; the final grade is given during the examination session while multiplying particular grades by the lever coefficient and summing the products.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
The results of the study program are focused on the realities and perspectives of the development of Klaipeda region, Lithuania and EU. Klaipeda is a member of the WHO Healthy Cities Network. This project is a key WHO tool to effectively implement the “Health for All” strategy and to develop the prevention of chronic noncommunicable diseases. Students in the program gain knowledge and skills to implement strategy measures.
Student athletes are provided with the opportunity to pursue a dual sports career.

In accordance with legal acts of Lithuania, after completion of the Programme and acquisition of qualification degree in subject pedagogy and pedagogue’s vocational qualification graduates may work as pedagogues in institutions of formal and non-formal education; in different state, social and private education and sports institutions, organizations and companies; strive for career on the basis of vocational and general competences.
Access to further study:
Bachelors of the programme are provided with a favourable educational environment and follow the principle of continuity and lifelong learning, i. e. to continue their studies in the second study cycle.
