Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train up highly qualified transport engineers to be competent to manage transport flows as well as being able to design and manage logistic chains and technological processes for cargo and passenger transportation, also to be able to solve complex transport engineering problems occurring in applying various multimodal models.

Learning outcomes:
The graduate of the programme:
1. Know transport sector infrastructure and logistic processes, advanced passenger and cargo carriage technologies, newest transport and logistics information systems.
2. Know and understand rolling stock and machines construction, operation and exploitation principles, overland transport technologies and their design stages.
3. Evaluate transport system structure, its elements and their interaction while designing cargo and passenger carriage technological processes.
4. Analyze cargo physical and mechanical properties, passenger and cargo streams.
5. Decide cargo logistics rational technological and economical decisions, taking in account cargo properties and streams, carriage route and transport unit.
6. Plan loading and storage works, to choose stevedoring mechanisms taking in account cargo type, batch size, cargo storage way and cargo carriage technologies.
7. Model cargo carriage technological process while evaluating cargo transportation conditions, loading mechanism and vehicles efficiency.
8. Know and apply international requirements regulating cargo carriage by various transport types.
9. Perform cargo/passenger flow calculations while taking into account carriage amounts, ways and market conditions and to prepare research reports while applying informational transport systems.
10. Analyze cargo accumulation and storage problems, to choose solutions and to plan effective vehicle work.
11. Project cargo and passenger carriage technological process for automobile, railway and maritime transport while taking in account legal regulation
12. Evaluate exploitative characteristics of means of transport, according to specifics of traffic and environment.
13. Perform responsibly in multi-profile teams solving professional tasks and problems.
14. Organize responsibly and qualitatively own practical activities and to self-develop continuously professional knowledge.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Transport Logistics study programme is oriented to the development of generic and specialist competences and creativity: lectures, seminars, discussions, individual and group projects, practice, case studies, public presentation and defense of projects, mind-maps, problem - solving reading, writing articles, information search and systematizing, etc.

Methods of student achievement assessment:
The assessment of the learning outcomes of the study programme is carried out during the semester and the examination session applying a cumulative assessment system. During the semester, the learning outcomes are assessed by means of interim assignments: tests, individual and group projects, case studies, information search and systematizing, discussions, essays, independent creative tasks, seminars, term papers, practice reports, examinations, final projects and / or qualifying exams.

Study subjects (124 credits): Professional Communication, Professional Foreign Language, Psychology / Philosophy of Engineering / Philosophy, Methodology of Applied Researches, Information Transport Systems, Cargo Transportation by Road Transport, Transport Systems, Transport Vehicles, Cargo Transportation by Rail Transport, Cargo Transportation by Sea Transport, Cargo Dynamics, Warehouse Logistics, Transport Economics, Supply Logistics, Organization of Loading Works, Multimodal Cargoes’ Transportation, Safe Vehicles’ Operation, Legal Regulation of Transport Activity.
Practices (38 credits): Practice of Transportation Technologies, Rolling Stocks Operations’ Practice, Logistic Skills Training Practice, Practice of Transport Logistics Technologies, Final Practice.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
Transport Logistics study programme focuses on the needs of the labor market in the region of Western Lithuania. The program develops specialists capable to organize and manage the processes of cargo transportation by road, rail, inland waterways and marine transport.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates will be able to work in road, rail and marine cargo transportation companies, logistics companies, bus and taxi parks, logistics centers, logistics subdivisions of big manufacturing companies in manufacturing and service enterprises as transport engineers, technologists or managers, operators, chief assistants or their deputies, managers of subdivisions (branches) in Lithuania and abroad. Initiative specialists after completing the studies and gaining some experience will be able to set up their companies and create workplaces.
