Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
This course takes the initiative to prepare creative, responsible and awareness of the construction industry influence on the environment and society having university graduate specialist. The graduate of the course, having a civil engineering master's degree, should be capable to accumulate, organise, analyse, assess and introduce information, as well as, present innovative solutions for the design problems of advanced structures, and validate their reliability using computational modelling and experimental methods. Course aims to develop the skills in performing the research, analysing their results, applying advanced design and project management methods in practice, and successfully taking part in competition within unified European market of the construction industry.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge
Knowledge in structural and material mechanics, probabilistic and optimization methods of the structures and their application skills.
Awareness and crucial assessment in advances of the civil engineering and collateral sciences.
Research skills
The ability to use databases of scientific papers and research results to set-up and carry out the research program in civil engineering science.
The ability to apply advanced analytical, computational and experimental methods for the design and analysis of buildings, structures and joints, assess the results and withdraw reasonable conclusions.
Engineering analysis
The ability to identify and analyse sophisticated structural systems, which partly of fully overrun conventional design methods and principles. Skills in applications of computational modelling and experimental methods in the development of the structural design.
The awareness of necessity of appropriate consideration of occupational, fire and environmental safety, as well as commercial requirements in the initial stage of project preparation.
Engineering design
To contain the knowledge and skills for accomplishment of advanced constructional and structural design.
The ability to apply acquired knowledges for the solutions of unconventional design problems and development of innovative approach to the structural systems and design methods.
Personal and social abilities
ACG1. The ability of productively serve as a part of diverse engineering design team and have the essential skills in efficient communication with international engineering society.
ACG2. To realize the rank and ethics of responsibility in engineering activity, the impact of engineering solutions to the environment and society, as well as, eventual economic consequences.
Engineering practice ability
IVG1. The ability to invoke the knowledge and skills of structural mechanics, probability assessment and finite element method to obtain the solution of multiple engineering problems and choose the appropriate software and experimental set-up regarding limitations of relevant methods and methodologies.
IVG2. To realize the organizing principles of the design activity, to understand the significance of interaction among its links and to be aware of the software capable to declare the reliability of this interaction and based on building information modelling.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Interactive lectures and problem based learning, laboratory works, practices, demonstration lectures, individual or team work tasks, case studies, reports and papers information search and summarising, study of research and study literature, scietific experiments (testing)
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Cumulative assessment system: individual work tasks and tests, reports of laboratory works and practices, course and complex projects, defence of final thesis.
