General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To provide by knowledge background in mathematics, physics, technology sciences for project, installation and maintenance of the heat-, gas- and water supply, sewage and water cleaning, electricity supply, automation and other building engineering systems, also to provide by knowledge in other engineering science, to arrange them for further postgraduate (master level) studies.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and Understanding:
A1 Has knowledge and understanding of scientific and fundamental basics of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, required in fields of Civil Engineering and Building Services Engineering studies.
A2 Has knowledge and understanding of theory of the field of Building Services Engineering studies, including strength of materials, fluid mechanics, indoor climate and building services systems, social and environmental aspects and has skills of systematic applications of knowledge for solving problems of building services engineering.
A3 Has knowledge of the requirements of design, construction and operation of buildings and services systems, methods of evaluation of reliability and durability of equipment and materials, importance of application of laws on construction of EU and Lithuania and is able to perform their search.
A4 Has knowledge and understanding of the interdisciplinary context of Building Services Engineering and is capable of understanding relations between Civil Engineering and other fields of science, is capable of applying knowledge and appropriate methods in the field of building services engineering, understands interrelated processes.
Engineering Analysis:
B1 Is able to applying one’s knowledge and understanding for identification, formulation and solving of problems in fields of Civil Engineering and Building Services Engineering, by using known methods of calculation and analysis.
B2 Is able to identification and solving of engineering problems of building services systems (heating, ventilation and air conditioning, water supply and sewerage, as well as gas supply), selection of methods of analysis suitable for these systems and construction structures, as well as experimental and production equipment.
B3 Is able to solving practical problems of the field of Building Services Engineering by applying analytical and modelling methods and evaluating the limitations of activities of civil engineering and engineering practice.
Engineering Design:
C1 Is able to designing heating, ventilation and air conditioning, water supply and sewerage, and gas supply systems, taking into account aspects of law on construction, as well as safety, social, hygiene, environmental protection and economical aspects.
C2 Has understanding of methods of design of engineering structures and services systems, is capable of collecting the required documents, performing their evaluation and the design tasks of civil engineering and building services systems, maintaining conformance to special requirements described in legal documents, foreseeing the conditions of operation.
C3 Is able to solving design problems in the field of civil engineering, collecting documents required for design of structures and construction works, performing their analysis, evaluation, selection of suitable solutions, methods of construction, taking into account the environment of construction, limiting conditions, aesthetical and architectural aspects, economical factors and the expected conditions of operation.
Investigations:
D1 Is able to individual search for literature, collection and processing of data in the field of Civil Engineering, by using data bases and other sources of information, critical evaluation and making conclusions.
D2 Is able to planning and performing analytical, modelling and experimental research of construction structures, construction materials, indoor climate of buildings, hydraulics and aerodynamics, processing, evaluation and interpretation of obtained results.
D3 Has experience of laboratory work, capable of applying laboratory equipment and devices for research of construction materials and structures, building services systems, geodesic measurements, capable of explaining data and providing conclusions.
Engineering Practice:
E1 Is able to implementing rational solutions of civil engineering by applying methods of evaluation of design, construction, modelling and management of construction, reliability and durability of construction structures, technical means and hardware/software.
E2 Is able to finding rational solutions to problems of building services systems, application of theoretical knowledge to practical activities, demonstrating knowledge of technologies of construction works and installation of building services systems, capable of performing engineering activities, taking into account aspects of energy saving, safety and impact on humans.
E3 Has understanding and capability of evaluation of ethical, environmental, building microclimate, energy saving, human and environmental impact, economical circumstances of and engineering activities.
E4 Has understanding of technologies of technologies of construction works and installation of building services systems, principles of organization of the technological process of construction, importance and the main requirements for fire safety, interaction between links of engineering activities.
Transferable Skills:
F1 Has teamwork skills, is capable of generating new ideas, convincing expression and acceptance of constructive criticism, is efficient in solving engineering problems individually or in a team.
F2 Is able to communication with peers, senior managers, clients and the public both in solving civil engineering problems and presenting the completed activities, its results, explanation of consumer and public needs related to the activities, written and oral communication in at least one of the main foreign languages, has personal responsibility for the quality of engineering practice.
F3 Has scientific approach, values, professional view of the engineering profession and maintains universally accepted norms of professional ethics, has qualities of initiative and entrepreneurship, is capable of evaluating risk of engineering solutions, forecasting changes and their effects, impact on the society and the environment, understands the responsibility for engineering practice.
F4 Has good understanding of aspects of management and business of construction projects, has understanding of relations between technological and design solutions, and their economic impact.
F5 Is able to independent learning and improvement in fields of Civil Engineering and Building Services Systems, has skills of independent learning and planning, collection and organization of information, organizational skills of professional activities and learning process, has understanding of their importance and prepares for it in advance.

Activities of teaching and learning:
The applied modes of teaching include: lectures, exercises, seminars, lab works, independent work assignments, practical work. Methods and means used in the learning process: search and analysis of scientific and practical literature and other data sources, semester assignments, projects, final projects and their defence, individual and group work (homework, group assignments during practical work, defence of projects), exercises, discussions and seminars, visiting of construction sites, lectures by guest lecturers - practicians, observation, etc.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The order of evaluation of knowledge is provided in the card of each module (subject), indicating the number and form of reports in the course of semester, and how each evaluation influences the final grade. The final grade of the module (subject) is determined according to percentage of individual work and examination, provided in the module programme. Students are examined in one of the possible ways: examination by a commission, examination by computer, written examination, oral examination, oral and written examination.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
A graduate has knowledge in building physics, the strenght of materials, fluid mechanics, building materials, construction technology and management, understands construction economics and law, technologies and control of building services systems. Abilities to design heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for buildings as well as gas supply, water supply and sewage disposal systems are obtained during the studies. The graduate possesses knowledge of renewable energy technologies in buildings, installation and maintenance of building services systems, has hands-on experience obtained during proffesional practice in companies.
