Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme: The aim of the International Politics and Development Studies programme is to prepare highly qualified political science Bachelor graduates who would be professional analysts capable of making competent explanations, analyses, comparisons and assessments of the political, economic and social processes of developing countries and regions, to explain and assess trends and strategies in international assistance offered to the developing world, to independently perform research, and to prepare and carry out practical and applied scientific projects.

Learning outcomes: Upon completion of the International Politics and Development Studies programme, students shall be able to: explain  the historic and international context of developing countries and regions and predict their prospects for development; critically assess inter-relations between political actors, economic and business structures and the media in the political systems of developing countries; compare socio-political processes in developing countries and regions; analyse legal and programmatic aspects of EU and other international system participants in providing assistance to countries and regions in the developing world; consider the practical tasks and problems of developing country and regional policies, suggesting ways they may be resolved in a local and international context; initiate, prepare and execute various political, social, economic and information activity projects; apply methodological tools and theoretical approaches in policy analysis and in practice; assess their newly acquired experience, constantly collect information and critically assess it, and be guided by continual learning provisions.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Teaching: lectures (theoretical and focused on the practical application) and seminars (simulations, case studies, disputes, presentations, group projects).
Learning: awareness of theoretical literature, independent designed work, preparation of presentations, writing of essays, book reviews.

Besides political science dimension, there are also development studies and regional studies dimensions, with a compulsary regional language.
