General Description:
Objective(s) of a study program:
The aim of Physiotherapy study program is to prepare a specialist who is able to examine and evaluate person’s functional and physical condition, treat with the movement, manual and physical actions, compensate disability, assure health care and prevention, promote and educate the healthy living.
Learning outcomes:
 to carry out the practice-oriented empirical studies into practical activities: collect and systemize information; formulate the problem properly; select and apply qualitative and quantitative research methods; collect, accumulate and analyze research data according to the principles of research ethics, formulate conclusions of the research;
 to apply research finding into the decisions of particular problems in field of rehabilitation, developing professional activities, implementing healthcare and rehabilitation innovations;
 to effectively communicate and cooperate developing full-rate relationship with the client/patient, group, community, colleagues and work responsibly in a team;
 to express their thoughts verbally and in written forms, communicate in a professional environment in Lithuanian and foreign languages;
 to generate new ideas in the practical activities; adapt to the changing environment;
 to take responsibility for the quality of the work of their own and their employees, in accordance with professional ethics and citizenship;
 to strengthen the image of the rehabilitation profession, take care for its value and importance;
 to critically evaluate own professional practice, knowledge and values; reflect on the development of their own professional growth learning throughout life;
 to independently make decisions, assess their impact and act in a defined situation, using practical knowledge;
 to use contemporary technologies and information systems, behave professionally with confidential information;
 to take care of strengthening own professional self-awareness, develop adequate character traits required for the profession;
 to identify and assess needs and strengths of the patient/client (group/community); plan, implement and evaluate work process ant its results; apply different methods, create mutual trust relationships, represent patient/client rights and interests;
 to fill, collect and analyze professional documentation;
 to select and apply appropriate techniques, tools and methods for the person’s functional and physical examination;
 to follow the principles of equal possibilities assurance, diversity recognition, values of the health care and rehabilitation, ethics and the principles of professional responsibility;
 to analyze problems related to the person psychosocial, cognitive, emotional, physical condition and dysfunction;
 to integrate science-based research and practice into areas of disease prevention, health promotion, treatment, habilitation and rehabilitation;
 to assess and analyze the results of professional activities cooperating with the client/patient, family members;
 to demonstrate principles of professional ethics and behavior.
Activities of teaching and learning:
In order to achieve study results, student-oriented methods (analysis of cases, reflection, interactive lecture, observation, analysis of best practices, making and reasoning assumptions, role-play games, etc.), independent work and related methods are intended in the descriptions of subjects.
Methods of problematic teaching in subject studies: analysis of cases (in specialty subjects – clinical cases) in small groups draw students into confrontation with practical problems that stimulate their independent learning, will realize interdisciplinary integration of knowledge and skills in solving real life situations, and the lecturer’s function is changed into that of a consultant’s and helper’s.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Studies are carry out and the students’ achievements are assessed using the ten-grade criterion assessment system. Study subjects are finished with an examination or project work depending on the learning outcomes of the study program. The learning outcomes assessment has the following elements: knowledge, understanding, abilities assessment. The assessment is predicated on validity, openness, usefulness, impartiality. In order to ensure transparency of the assessment system, students are familiarized with the assessment system of their achievements at the beginning of each subject studies according to the description of the subject.
In very beginning of each study program, teacher determinates and informs students about an impact of every cumulative part (in percents) for final assessment and formulates criteria for interim task’s assessment.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
General subjects of college study in the modular system (18 credits): professional environment, professional language, human safety and ergonomics, communication psychology and pedagogics, philosophy.
Subjects of the study field in the modular system (102 credits): anatomy and physiology; environmental health; genetics; general physiotherapy and functional diagnostics; science of movement; pathology; massage; physiotherapy in therapeutic and geriatric cases; physiotherapy; active and passive physiotherapy; pharmacology and physiotherapy; fundamentals of nursing and first medical aid; surgical, traumatological, orthopedic physiotherapy, fundamentals of rehabilitation; nervous system diseases and physiotherapy; obstetric and gynecological physiotherapy; physiotherapy methodologies; children's physiotherapy; special and gerontological physiotherapy; health law, business and career design; applied research, informational communication and statistics.
Professional practice activities takes place in stages, which is intended for - 42 credits.
Full-time study program practice: 2 semester - general physiotherapy practice (6 credits, 4 weeks); 3 semester - surgical, traumatological, orthopedic physiotherapy practice (3 credits, 2 weeks), therapeutic and geriatric physiotherapy practice (3 credits, 2 weeks); 4 semester - neurological physiotherapy practice (6 credits, 4 weeks), pediatric physiotherapy practice (3 credits, 2 weeks); 6 semester - special and gerontological physiotherapy practice (6 credits, 4 weeks), final professional activity practice and supervision (15 credits, 10 weeks).
During the practices, students are introduced with the physiotherapist work methods and organization of work in health care and rehabilitation institutions, consolidate and improve practical skills, gain during studies and practical activities.
The study program is completed with the final paper preparation (9 credits) and its defense in public at the qualification commission meeting.

It is possible to deepen knowledge in the field of study by choosing one subject from the following: public health/family health; acupressure/ aesthetic phyto aromatherapy; music and motion therapy/sleep therapy; basics of sports medicine/basics of the SPA industry.
9 credits of study program is allocated for the study of optional subjects.

Graduates can work in personal health care institutions of all health care levels, social rehabilitation and habilitation, education and training institutions, care and nursing institutions, health promoting institutions and engage in private business.

After the bridging courses or having accomplished the requirements of other higher educational institution, students have access to continue studies in the second study cycle.
