General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train information specialists capable to manage information, identify and evaluate consumer information needs and provide them with informational, cultural and educational services.
Learning outcomes:

Knowledge and its application
1. Knowledge and understanding theories of philosophy, statistics, social sciences (psychology, management, law, information and communication sciences, etc.) that provide practical knowledge in the field of information management.
2. Applying knowledge based on the latest scientific insights and / or practical activities, analyzing and evaluating information management in the context of time and space, identifying and solving complex problems of information management in various informational environments.
Research skills:
3. Carrying out applied research necessary to solve information management and innovation implementation problems by independently selecting and applying qualitative and quantitative research methods; process data using modern information technology
4. Analyzing, evaluating and interpreting the results of applied research by analyzing public information needs, information behavior, organization's activities and informing the public about possible changes based on the performed research.
Special skills
5. Determining and assessing the information needs of users by linking them to their activities and operational strategies.
6. Organizing processes of formation, searching, digitizing, disseminating and storing of traditional and digital information resources by monitoring the information market and utilized information systems.
7. Managing information flows, information and knowledge resources by applying classification, systematization and metadata categorization standards.
8. Performing data and information search in various information systems and data repositories by independently selecting and applying information analysis tools and methods, providing information services in accordance to the users’ needs.
9. Utilizing social media platforms by organizing the development of informal informational and cultural literacy by developing creativity and cognitive abilities of people of all ages, consulting users about resources related to various business activities.

10. Working independently and in a team with information and other fields’ specialists, society, Lithuanian and foreign partners, taking into account global changes and solving professional tasks.
11. Modeling ethical information behavior in the workplace and in society, assuming civil and social responsibility for the quality of the team and his / her activities.
12. Working effectively and communicating in writing and orally in Lithuanian and foreign languages in an unfamiliar, changing, interdisciplinary environment.

13. Understanding the importance of lifelong learning, the ability to independently learn, criticizing and reflecting on and improving his / her professional activity.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Lectures, workshops, seminars, discussions, individual and group tasks, presentation of their results, practice, excursions, independent tasks in writing, case studies, situation characteristics and analysis, mind map, teamwork, problematic teaching, literature analysis, reflection, etc.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Ten-point criteria-based assessment system and cumulative assessment system are used consisting of interim assessments, practical, control tasks, student's independent written work, course paper, individual and group assignments, presentation of results assessment and examination. The final assessment consists of interim assessments and exam assessment in accordance with the proportions provided for each subject description.

Information and Knowledge Management, Internet Technologies, Statistics, Management, Bibliographic Description, Multimedia, Monitoring and Evaluating Information Flows, Methodology of Applied Research, Business Information Resources, Information Search, Formation of Information Resources, Information Services Organization, Psychology of Communication, Information Processing Systems, Information Digitization, Informational Behavior, Organization of Project Activities, Information Resources and Occupational Safety, Information Law, Science Information Resources, etc.

Practices: Introductory Information Structures, Information Resource Management, Information Management, Informational Behavior, Final (total duration – 20 weeks).

• The study programme is the only college programme in the field of information services in Lithuania.
• The study programme is the only college study programme in Lithuania in the field of information services.
• The Programme prepares information management specialists, not only knowing all information management processes, but also capable to work in traditional information storage and management institutions (libraries, archives, museums, etc.), as well as in various businesses, organizations, large data management institutions, etc.
• Double degree study programme with Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal).
• Those wishing to expand their competences and qualifications internationally can choose to study under a double diploma agreement at the Porto Institute of Accounting and Administration of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISCAP) already after the first year.
• Diplomas from both higher education institutions are awarded to those who have successfully completed such studies within the same period.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates will be able to work as information management specialists in different types of business and cultural organizations, libraries, documentation and information centers and services, archives, heritage institutions and other institutions in Lithuania and in the European Union countries, which require not only information resources, management knowledge and skills, but also the ability to communicate, serve users and work in a team.

Access to further study:
Graduates may get their learning outcomes recognized, if they want to take university study programmes of the first cycle. After completion of bridge courses or fulfilling other requirements of the accepting institution, students can continue their studies for the second cycle Master's degree.
They can continue their studies in Lithuanian and foreign higher education institutions following information services, communication, management, etc. postgraduate study programmes.
