Objective(s) of a study programme:
The graduate of Port and Shipping
Learning outcomes:
1.To apply the fundamental theories to understand and evaluate the external (micro- and macro-economic phenomena, political, social, cultural, legal, informational, natural and other environment) and internal (human, technological, financial, informational and other resources) business and enterprise environmental factors.
2.To analyze the structure of the financial system and its functions in the sectors of economics and maritime businesss.
3. To be aware of the principles of current theories of the financial management, which define the objectives of maritime and port and shipping business financial management, in accordance with the national and maritime economic development in order to foresee the potential possibilities for achieving these objectives and possibilities for the development of innovative business.
4.To apply the national and international general, financial and maritime legislation, financial reporting regulations, accounting, taxes and financial control methods, civil and labor safety legal framework, governing the financial activity of a company of the maritime sector.
5. To conduct the financial investigations of the activities of port and shipping companies by applying modern technologies, effective methods and models, in order to resolve activity management and innovation implementation issues.
6. To prepare maritime business company performance reporting documents, tax and statistical reports and declarations for internal and external users.
7. To analyze the performance reporting indicators of a port and shipping company, assess its financial condition and activity results, ensure financial controlling and provide recommendations for financing, investment, project management and other issues.
8. To cooperate in the arrangement of port and shipping companies budget and business plan, in support of the use of financial resources efficiency and risk assessment.
9.To generalize and systemize financial information of a port and shipping company by applying information technologies and economic and financial processing programs, provide it for internal and external users, and manage economic and financial company documentation.
10. To execute duty tax liability, depending on the nature of the customs procedure, in accordance with the customs and maritime law.
11. To manage maritime business company taxes and international settlements in accordance with national and international general, financial, and maritime law.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
Studies based on the real maritime companies business finance management and accounting needs. Practicum held IT labs using computer based training programs, working with specialized accounting systems, business simulations. Together with theoretical knowledge of economics, finance and practical skills, students acquire competence in financial management of maritime companies activities – shipping, stevedoring, agencies, etc. Excursions and meetings with the representatives of maritime businesses are organised, also these companies provides professional practice for students. The studies of two foreign languages are included in the study programme English (Maritime and Business) and Russian, Spanish (optional).

Professional activities and career of graduates of Professional Bachelor in Finance of Port and Shipping company study programme developed in the financial, economics, planning or any similar activities of maritime transport, port, shipping and logistics business companies or public companies of maritime management, such as the Klaipeda State Seaport Authority, Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration Maritime Department or other closely related fields of national and international companies.
The graduates are able to perform accountant, financial analyst, asistant of financial manager, economist, project finance manager, customs declarators, and etc. similar duties.
Financiers will manage the maritime business finances and companies accounting, will provide operational decisions based on the financial results of the analysis carried out financial operations, provide audits of port and shipping enterprises financial and management systems, communicate and cooperate with foreign business partners, financial institutions, and constantly improve their qualifications.
Access to further study:
The graduates will be able to continue their studies in postgraduate programs of social science, and pursue a Master's Degree in domestic and foreign higher education institutions according to stated rules and procedures.
