Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme: the programme is intended for the teaching of bachelors in composition able to create original music, perform professional arrangements and work with computer software of music composition, with good understanding of problems of today's composition, composition principles and technologies, the latest tendencies of modern music and able to professionally write and arrange music for symphonic and chamber orchestras, chamber ensembles, choir and soloists, electronic and media technologies.
Learning outcomes: ability to work and to improve independently; ability of abstract thinking, ability to analyze, systemize information, to solve problems and to create new ideas; ability to think critically and self-critically; ability to communicate in native and foreign languages; ability to compose music professionally; ability to analyze musical structures; knowledge of different musical contexts; ability to choose proper instruments, genres and musical context.
Activities of teaching and learning: group / individual lectures, seminars, practical training.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements: assessment of examinations and final examinations are carried out by using 10 point grading scale. The credit grading options comprise Pass/Fail assessing options. Accumulative assessment is applied.

Distinctive features of a study programme: the study programme is oriented to the preparation of a specialist of art’s field or a creator of music. Students have a possibility to choose a specialization – Academic composition or Digital production.
Access to professional activity: graduates can successfully work in areas of culture and music industries (advertisement, audio recording, etc.), culture, music education and science institutions, other artistic bodies, radio and television, the media, creative unions, etc.
Access to further study: graduates can continue studying Master’s degree in the area of arts studies. Bachelors can choose: Master of Composition (specialization of Academical composition or Digital technologies). Master students further improve their competences acquired during the Bachelor’s degree studies, combining studies of art practice and art research. Those who seek to deepen their pedagogical competences can try for second stage study programme of Music Educology.
