General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
1. To educate critical thinkers, capable of explaining the logic of key theories of political economy, and to evaluate their explanatory power empirically.
2. To educate specialists, capable of evaluating the effects of cultural, historical and institutional contexts on strategic actions of politicians, bureaucrats and interest groups.
3. To educate specialists, capable of employing advanced methods of formal modeling and data analysis.
4. To form open minded individuals, capable of living, communicating and working in multi-cultural and inter- disciplinary environments.

Learning outcomes:
Upon successful completion of Economics and Politics programme students are able to:
1. To explain the role of theories in understanding of reality; to identify the steps of scientific model-building and to list their quality-requirements.
2. To describe key micro and macro-economic theories and to evaluate their explanatory power in the context of historical as well as current events.
3. To describe key theories explaining strategic action by politicians, bureaucrats and interest groups, and to evaluate their explanatory power in the context of historical as well as current events.
4. To describe contemporary theories linking economic policies with strategic actions of politicians, bureaucrats and interest groups, and to evaluate their explanatory power in the context of historical as well as current events.
5. To evaluate the effect of cultural and historical contexts on actions of politicians, bureaucrats and interest groups; to recommend economic policy solutions that are politically sustainable in specific cultural and historical environments.
6. To compare structures of domestic and international policy making institutions as well as their impact on political and economic outcomes; to explain the genesis of domestic and international institutions as equilibria negotiated by interest groups and politicians.
7. To model decision making and strategic interactions of economic and political agents by means of mathematical analysis, decision and game-theoretic tools.
8. To evaluate explanatory power of hypotheses by means of advanced quantitative and qualitative methods of data analysis.
9. To master analytical, linguistic and social skills, necessary to thrive in a multi-cultural and inter-disciplinary environment.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
A unique study programme in Lithuania as it combines economics and politics.
The programme is taught entirely in English.
Students of Economics and Politics programme can participate in exchange programs and they have an ability to choose from up to 40 partner universities in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. While studying in this programme, students can apply for a double degree program at BI Norwegian Business School (Norway) or other university abroad.
As a part of the program, students are granted a possibility to conduct an internship in business, government, non-governmental or international organizations.
