Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Train professionals, meeting regional, national, international labour market needs, capable to organise and develop high-quality and competitive tourism services under global digitisation and innovation growth conditions.
Learning outcomes:
1.1. Understand modern tourism business tendencies and tourism business environment, capable to analyse it.
1.2. Aware of tourism geography, principles of the tourism service package as well as the travel itinerary and programme designing, identifying the needs of the market and of individual tourists.
1.3. Understand and know how to apply tourism business legislation, principles of the social responsibility, ethics and valuable attitudes in the professional activity.
2.1. Perform research, applying the latest research methods, codify, process, analyse the obtained data and know how to use them for the identification of the tourism business enterprise issues and their solution.
3.1. Able to organise and develop economic and financial activity of tourism entities, operating in the domestic and international markets, to manage processes and make decisions in the changing tourism business environment.
3.2. Capable to use applications and smart technologies in the professional activity and disseminate the information for the society by modern means and by various information channels.
3.3. Design tourism service packages and organise accommodation, catering, travel and leisure services at a tourism company, evaluating different tourists’ needs and considering appropriate measures.
3.4. Able to conduct negotiations, conclude agreements with clients and providers of tourism services, to ensure effective sales of tourism services.
4.1. Able to express the views fluently and impressively in the Lithuanian and foreign languages orally and in writing, interact and cooperate with professionals in a range of fields and to representatives of societal groups, efficiently communicate in the professional and inter-cultural environment.
4.2. Able to work in a team, to take responsibility for the quality of own or subordinate employees‘ activity, to follow social justice principles, professional ethics and citizenship, foster ethno-cultural and intercultural relations in the professional activity.
5.1. Able to learn continuously, understand selves in the public context and act in a responsible manner in the dynamic tourism business environment.
5.2. Pursue to be a leader, able to analyse and critically assess strategies of the chosen activity, to establish objectives, formulate targets and foresee the most efficient ways and measures for their achievement.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Traditional teaching (learning) methods: lectures; seminars; discussions; work in groups; project works;
laboratory works; practicals; training practices; surveys; tests; consultations; defence of self-study; credits; examinations; defence of final theses.
Non-traditional teaching (learning) methods: lectures outside Utena UAS, visiting enterprises, various organisations; lectures at the library, analysing special resources, working using databases; joint lectures- merging several academic groups of different study programmes and combining several subjects, Round-table Discussions are held; lectures of visiting lecturers, guests, professionals, aimed at sharing of practical experience, presentation of the situations and cases from the company activity; case analysis; situation analysis; brainstorming sessions; experiment; interview; Six Thinking Hats (Edward de Bono's Six Hats); the Epstein-Peterson method for four edges; Venno Scheme Method; Frayer Model; Human Cognition Method according to his/her temperament.
Methods of assessment of learning
achievements:
Learning outcomes are evaluated by the levels of the study achievements and by the 10-grade-criterion assessment system, following Utena UAS Order for the Assessment of Learning Outcomes, 2017, online access: https://www.utenos-kolegija.lt/upload/file_manager/Kolegija/Studiju%20rezultatu%20vertinimo%20tvarka_2017-03-21.pdf.
The subjects studied are accomplished either by the examination or by the project work, depending on the intended learning outcomes of the study programme. Final evaluation of the subject is the accumulative point. The students’ achievements’ assessment formula is presented in the descriptors of the subjects. During the first lecture of the course, every lecturer introduces the students to the subject assessment.

General Subjects of College Studies (total: 20 ECTS): Professional Foreign Language; Foreign Language II, Philosophy/ Sociology.
Core and Compulsory Subjects (total: 96 ECTS):
Communication Psychology, Social Research and Statistical Data Analysis, Fundamentals of Tourism, Business Language, Media Technologies, Intercultural Competences and Negotiations, Catering Organisation, Tourism Innovation, Micro and Macroeconomics, Travel Geography, Services of Travel Organisation, Accommodation Business, Organisation of Leisure, Protection and Human Safety, Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship, Management in Tourism Sector, Marketing of Tourism Services, Business Law, Accounting and Finance, Sustainable Tourism, Project Management, Quality Assurance.
Freely Optional Subjects (6 ECTC).
Core and Compulsory Optional Subjects (Specialisations) - 18 ECTS.
Practices (total: 30 ECTS): Entrepreneurship Education Practice, Practice in a Tourism Sector Company and Final Practice.
Final Thesis (10 ECTS).
Specialisations:
1. Management of Hospitality Services alternative, including the following subjects: Systems of Accommodation Establishment Service Management, Management of Hotel Services, Management of Restaurant Services.
2. Travel and Leisure Organisation alternative, including the following subjects: Reservation Systems of Travel and Leisure Services, Organisation of Travels and Excursions, Organisation of Entertainment and Events.

Distinctive features of a study
programme:
Exclusivity of the study programme emerges in its well-balanced structure and the compliance of which with the modern market needs. Therefore, in the curriculum, a special attention is addressed towards work with specialised computer programs (software applications), developing practical skills in tourism companies of foreign countries and in Lithuania, teaching of languages, intercultural communication, communication psychology, etc., as this provides important theoretical and practical skills for future tourism professionals of the new generation. It is relevant that distance learning (e-learning) opportunity will be available for the students.

Access to professional activity:
Having accomplished the profession, the graduates are able to work in the following hospitality enterprises: at hotels, in homesteads of rural tourism and in other accommodation establishments, at companies, providing with catering, at travel agencies and organisers, in tourism information centres, in visitors’ centres of protective territories, at companies, providing with entertainment and event organisation, at tourism and recreation departments of the state institutions. As well, the studies provide with necessary knowledge in order to establish own tourism company.
Access to further study:
On the completion of Tourism Service Management study programme at Utena UAS, the graduates may continue their studies in the study programmes of the first cycle at the universities. Having accomplished bridging studies or upon meeting other requirements, set by the accepting higher education institution, they are entitled to enter the second cycle graduate studies.
