Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study program:
Educate highly qualified media personnel who are able to understand the changes in the media world, the role of media in modern society, it’s processes and policies, political governance and democratic processes, as well as the ability to organize media coverage of political, civic and economic point of view, to improve the LAW, securities and ethical foundations of the EU's communicative space.
Learning outcomes:
Students have :
1. To acquire competencies associated with media functions in modern society, to know what is journalism and its history, theory, role in modern society, democratization, civil society and the rule of improvement.
2. To have knowledge of political communication, modern sociology, communication development, new media and social networks.
3. To understand new approaches of contemporary media, its relationship to the social, political, civic and economic development, legal and ethical aspects of journalism.
4. To be able to evaluate contemporary phenomena of reality, objectively and critically to be able to analyze the political communication phenomena, investigate, organize, identify problems and create transparent, socially responsible and democratic values-oriented media models.
5. To be able to work in journalism according to the European Union single communication space principles, professional ethics requirements and also meet the highest political communication professional and ethical standards.
6. To be able to run the media as the "fourth government" functions, shape public discourse in the name of social progress and the reference values, apply and combine effective media organization and management techniques to ensure media and journalist economic independence, transparency and objectivity.
7. To be able to carry out the policy of communication in the broadest sense, ranging from the management field and ending with the political process and the organization of campaigns, communications, and decision-making evaluation of the different and changing contexts.
8. To be able to develop and use new political and social thinking, paradigms and models, develop and communicate public discourses, using modern media patterns, turning social networks, civil society organizations and the fundamental values of diffusion mechanisms
9. To be able to be purposefully concerned in global development trends, political communication and government change and democratization processes, to improve forecasting and policy evaluation skills, be able to analyze a variety of sources, critically evaluate and diverse information, to integrate, to recreate and to use new ideas and political and governance processes and the development of democracy development.
10. To be able to develop scientific intelligence and critical thinking skills, self-analysis and evaluation of political phenomena, to improve political communication methods, communication skills, develop daily habits of informal development, develop information for selecting and structuring worldview and self-help skills.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The study process consists of a variety of teaching and learning methods that meet students' different learning styles and needs. In most courses in order to achieve more efficient assimilation of knowledge, several methods are combined: theoretical, involving, interactive, problem-based training lectures, workshops and seminars where students carry out practical tasks, analyze work-related cases and situations, present concept maps, prepare presentations for certain subject courses, participate in discussions, consult their colleagues, develop individual and team projects, discuss the sources of visual material and other. During individual work hours students analyze specialty-related literature, search for information, write their reflection journals, and do research.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Cumulative assessment is applied. It consists of intermediate assignments (colloquia, practical work, individual and team assignments and their presentation, research work, etc.) and evaluation of students' performance at written or oral examination.

Distinctive features of a study program:
It is the first study program of this type, because none of the universities in Lithuania has or administers any specialized undergraduate program of political communication. This program is different from others in terms of specific subjects offered for studies (specialized subjects), its conceptual framework and its qualitative leap from the traditional approach.
