Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective (s) of a study programme:
To train specialists in transport logistics, who are able to plan, prepare, organize and coordinate efficient warehousing and distribution processes of international freight transportation, and customer service in accordance with national and international legislation regulating transport and logistics activities, professional ethics and social responsibility principles; who are constantly improving and able to operate independently in changing business conditions.
Learning outcomes:
1. Knowledge and ability to apply general theoretical knowledge of economics, management, finance, accounting, information management, to apply principles of business creation and development, taking into account the special aspects of the transport sector.
2. Understanding of transport sector infrastructure and logistics processes, logistics chains of passenger and freight flow, transportation technological processes.
3. Ability to analyse and evaluate the logistics business environment, market trends, carry out the analysis of cargo/passenger flows and to apply results of the analysis in the implementation of transport logistics activities, ensuring their quality and control.
4. Ability to analyse and evaluate the problems of cargo warehousing and storage by applying transport information systems in planning the efficient operation of vehicles.
5. Ability to plan, organize and operate supply chain and logistics activities in managing international processes of freight/passenger transportation, using modern technologies and following international requirements which regulate freight/passenger carriage in various modes of transport, being guided by the professional ethics.
6. Ability to perform logistic functions in analysing logistics networks and systems, applying marketing principles in the national and international market.
7. Ability to use modern information technologies, work in a team, communicate with clients, colleagues and partners, cooperate with representatives of their field and other professions in Lithuanian and foreign languages, choosing appropriate forms of intercultural communication.
8. Students will acquire the necessary learning and practical skills to continue studies, will be able to evaluate constructively and critically their own professional activities, reflect on their professional development.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Problem based teaching, seminars, discussions, group work, practical tasks, literature analysis, project work, reflections, situational simulations, case analysis, independent learning.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Cumulative assessment method is applied at Kolping University of Applied Sciences. The learning outcomes presented in subject programmes are assessed by cumulative scores. All subject or module studies end with an exam or student self-study work (project). Final subject assessment is a cumulative score, e. g. midterm tests, individual work, and examination. Assessment formula of students’ achievements is presented in a subject programme.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
First of all, general skills are being taught (23 credits – First and Second Foreign Language, Philosophy, Lithuanian Language Culture, Christian Social Teaching), at the same time students complete the study field subjects, such as Information Technology, Applied Mathematics, Management, Basics of Economy, Basics of Entrepreneurship, International Business Statistics, and then study subjects requiring knowledge of the subjects listed above: Basics of Logistics, Transport Systems and Tools, Law, Marketing and Distribution, Accounting and Analysis of Financial Activities, Information Systems in Logistics, Internal Chain Logistics and Management, Strategic Management of Logistics Companies, Transport and Freight Logistics, Legal Regulation of Transport Activities, Project Management, Warehouses and Terminals, Total Quality Management, Market Research and Analysis, Transport Economics, EU Transport Policy (99 credits). During the study period, students will complete five professional practices at the companies (39 credits).

Optional courses:
10 credits are given for optional subjects chosen by the students themselves. Students are free to choose any subjects from other study programmes provided at KUAS or they may decide to take a course in another institution of higher education
Distinctive features of a study programme:
Students are taught two foreign languages (English and German), and also have the opportunity to complete an internship in organizations of International Kolping Network in 40 different countries.
The study program focuses on the principles of green logistics to train specialists who are able to act responsibly in the field of logistics, with the understanding how the negative impact of logistics activities on the environment can be reduced, and the economic and social consequences of using these measures can be assessed.

Upon successful completion of the Transport Logistics Study Program, graduates will be able to work in logistics companies providing transportation, shipping, and warehousing services. Companies and organizations involved in transport logistics services can be potential employers for the graduates. Graduates will be able to start their own businesses.
Access to further study:
Students have the right to pursue recognition of study results if they want to study at university undergraduate or integrated studies. After completion of bridge courses or fulfilling other requirements of the accepting institution of higher education, a student has the right to enter the second cycle (master's) studies.
