Summary of the Profile

General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: The study programme aims to train professional bachelors in the study field of fine arts, able to act independently in the areas of art and culture; create innovative artworks based on scientific and art research; comprehend the authenticity of art objects made of glass, ceramics, leather, textiles, and the methods and techniques used to (re)create them; and conserve and restore objects of cultural heritage, ensuring their long-term preservation. Learning outcomes: 1. Compares and critically evaluates art phenomena and trends in historical, social, and cultural contexts.

2. Expresses personal professional position by applying knowledge and methodologies of art and general culture to create innovative art objects. 3. Collects information using reference books, information search systems, digital databases and follows heritage protection documents of the Republic of Lithuania to preserve and restore cultural heritage objects. 4. Knows management principles, legal environment, and human safety requirements and applies them in professional activities. 5. Understands the requirements for construction, conservation and restoration materials and follows the relevant principles of the operations performed. 6. Collects and analyses data and experiments to implement artistic ideas and solve creative problems. 7. Prepares a creative project based on analytical data, art practice, and applied research. 8. Identifies, evaluates, describes, and illustrates the materials, techniques, condition, authenticity, historical, artistic, cultural and scientific significance of the cultural heritage objects under restoration. 9. Publicly presents ideas, research progress and results reasoning them. 10. Demonstrates communication skills in spoken, written and contemporary visual forms. 11. Plans the stages of an art project, considering the scope of the activity, timeframe, deadlines, and priorities. 12. Studies independently and reflects on personal activities, comprehends the importance of lifelong learning and prepares a professional portfolio of creative works. 13. Implements art projects, taking social responsibility for the personal impact on economic and cultural development, social well-being, and the environment. 14. Experiments in the creative process, appropriately using traditional and contemporary digital techniques and technologies. 15. Applies appropriate plastic expression tools and technologies to a specific artwork. 16. Performs fixing of the material structure and (or) construction of artworks and uses materials, technologies, and techniques that do not damage or destroy the object of art/culture heritage. 17. Develops a project for the art objects to be created and a programme for conserving and restoring cultural heritage objects (task, methodology, report, estimates, etc.). 18. Performs cleaning and stabilisation of the decomposition processes of the structural materials of the art objects. 19. Prepares art/cultural heritage objects for transportation, display and documentation for their archiving. Activities of teaching and learning: Lectures, presentations, discussions, seminars, demonstrations, practical assignments, group work, literature analysis, developing projects, etc. Methods of assessment of learning achievements:

Learning achievements are assessed using a cumulative assessment system. Knowledge and skills are assessed on a ten-score scale. The final score may consist of several components collected in the study process (interim reports, self-study papers, an examination, or a project). The course unit lecturer defines the components of cumulative assessment and the values of their coefficients depending on the complexity of the course. At the beginning of the term, the lecturer informs students about the impact of each component (task, paper) on the final assessment (in per cent) and formulates assessment criteria for each interim assignment. Framework: Study courses (modules), practical training: The volume of general courses of collegial studies is 15 credits: Philosophy, Foreign Language 1 (English) Level I / Foreign Language 1 (English) Level II, Foreign Language 2 (English) Level I / Foreign Language 2 (English) Level II, Oral and Written Communication, Business Law. The volume of the courses in the basic study field is 114 credits: Applied Computer Software, Sculpturing and Modelling, Drawing and Sketching, Basics of Composition and Design, Decorative Plastic Techniques, Ethnic Culture and History of Lithuanian Art, Drawing 1, Decorative Plastic Design and Techniques 1, General and Applied Art History, Professional Ethics, Painting 1, Painting 2, Art Research and Achievements Portfolio, Human Safety, Business Start-Up and Development) and the Professional Bachelor Thesis is allocated 15 credits. Specialisations: The volume of specialisation courses is 42 credits Creation and Restoration of Glass Objects. The following course units are studied: Molding, Technology of Molding, Techniques and Technologies of Conservation and Restoration of Porcelain Artworks, Stained Glass, Technology of Stained Glass, Techniques and Technologies of Conservation and Restoration of Stained Glass. Creation and Restoration of Ceramic Objects. The following course units are studied: Porcelain Plastics, Technologies of Porcelain Plastics, Techniques and Technologies of Conservation and Restoration of Porcelain Artworks, Stone Mass Plastics, Technologies of Stone Mass Plastics, Techniques and Technologies of Conservation and Restoration of Stone Mass Artworks. Creation and Restoration of Leather Objects. The following course units are studied: Artistic Bookbinding, Bookbinding Technologies, Techniques and Technologies of Conservation and Restoration of Leather Books, Creation of Leather Plastic Objects, Technology of Decorative Leather Plastic, Techniques and Technologies of Preservation and Restoration of Leather Artworks. Creation and Restoration of Textile Objects. The following course units are studied: Gobelin, Gobelin

Technologies, Techniques and Technologies of Preservation and Restoration of Gobelin, Batik, Technologies of Batik, Techniques and Technologies of Preservation and Restoration of Textile Artworks. Elective courses: Students can deepen their knowledge by choosing courses from the list of freely elective study courses. The volume of freely elective courses is 9 credits. The study programme of Object Art offers the following freely elective courses for the students of Kauno kolegija: Sketching / Engineering Graphics, Graphics / Photography, Sculpture / Sculpture Form Making. Distinctive features of the study programme: The study programme is unique and cherishes deep traditions of professional ceramics, glass, leather, and textile. It is the only study programme of such kind in Lithuania. Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: After completing the study programme of Object Art, a graduate can work in industrial enterprises, firms, and private limited companies; take managerial positions; establish a private business; work freelance, or perform as an independent artist. Access to further study: After completing the study programme of Object Art, studies can be continued in any Lithuanian or European higher education institution with the collegial learning outcomes credited.
