Activities of teaching and learning:
Lectures consist of classes on theory and practice, self-study time and assignments and scheduled consultations with the lecturers. Some of theoretical and practical classes may be organized by video conferences.
Practical classes take place in computer labs, specialized simulators: multifunctional navigation simulator, ship’s engine room simulator, marine cargo handling information system simulator and seaport’s cargo handling management simulator.
Excursions to shipping and logistics, seaport and IT companies are organized during practical classes.
Professional training are organized during final professional practice at the shipping, logistic, seaport or IT company.
Main activities during study processes: analysis of scientific literature, work at the library, active data search and data processing operations, project preparation, designing and implementation of information systems’ hardware and installing of software, parameters’ configuring, problem solving of the information systems for the shipping and logistic sectors, collection of different types datasets, design the research algorithms, programming basics of SQL, programming and modelling in Python, R/R-Studio, applying GIS for situation analysis, applying of machine learning algorithms, visualisation, interpretation and presentation of research results at discussions, seminars and conferences.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Tests, essay, written report, control work, exam, presentation of data set and analytical models of problems, presentation of bibliography, presentation of case analysis results, individual written work, individual programming work, individual project, presentation of team working results, presentation of problem solving solutions, oral report at seminar and/or conference, demonstration of analytical skills, demonstration of programming skills, presentation of source codes of created models, presentation of visualized results, research paper, course work and public presentation, professional practice report (written) and defense, final thesis and final thesis defense.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
Study modules:
Sustainable development of international logistics, Foreign language, Basics of mathematical analysis, Mathematical logic and statistics, Mathematical forecasting methods, Mathematical forecasting methods, Algorithms and data structures, Simulation modelling, Artificial intelligence fundamentals, Collection of large-scale experimental data set, Fundamentals of information systems‘ technologies, Infrastructure of logistic chain:, Supply chain management and economics, Modelling of shipping and logistics processes, and Final professional practice of data analysis of shipping and logistics information systems.
Specialisations:

Optional courses:
The study module of foreign language must optionally be composed of at least three elective subjects.
- the first subjects could be chosen from two subjects: Informatics English or English in Information Systems (at the level B1, B2);
- the second subject is also chosen from the following two: Introduction to international logistics in English or Marine English (at the level B1, B2);
- the third subjects is “The second foreign language for beginners at the level A1, A2” and it could be chosen from the following three: Russian, or German, or Spanish. Languages.
Another subject optionally chosen by the students is the final professional practice of data analysis of shipping and logistics information systems. They can choose one from five professional practice areas:
- data analysis of shipping information systems;
- data analysis of intermodal logistic chain information systems;
- shipping and logistics business analytics;
- shipping and logistics information systems and programs analytics;
- shipping and logistics technologies’ analytics.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
Interdisciplinarity: studies in shipping and logistics information systems combine knowledge and competencies in the fields of informatics, mathematics, shipping and logistics, and the acquired knowledge and competencies could be applied to solve the optimisation problems in shipping and logistics business and technological processes.
Open access programming tools. Main programming tools used in studies are Python, R/R-Studio programming packages. They are the most demanding software for performing of information systems’ data analysis in the processes of global supply chain.
Innovative study method- simulator based training. The two study modules (Collection of large-scale experimental data set and Modelling of shipping and logistics processes) take place in specialized simulators: multifunctional navigation simulator, ship’s engine room simulator, marine cargo handling information system and seaport’s cargo handling management simulator. Such type of studies create possibilities for students to get acquainted with simulated real-time processes in shipping and logistics, also enabling them to learn the specialized optimization problems’ solving.
Compliance with the market demand. Autonomous vehicles internet of things, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms in shipping and logistic market form the demand of increasing data in the information systems and operational data analysis in the global supply chain for the optimal cargo and vehicles distribution finding.
Wide range of professional opportunities. The shipping and logistics information systems’ data analytic can work in shipping companies, various transport and logistics companies, related manufacturing and business companies at the seaports, also at the companies providing information and communication technologies and services. The career of these data analysis specialists could be realised not only in the private and public companies of shipping and logistics market, but also in the areas of public and private cyber security, security of business and public information systems, also financial and insurance information systems, public information systems such as education, transport, health information systems, also they could work in the field of law.
