Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Objective of the Child Welfare and Social Security study programme is to prepare qualified social work professionals in the fields of child welfare and social security, with necessary knowledge, general and professional skills for the professional activities, who are able to provide social assistance to children and their families to achieve their optimal functioning in the changing society; able to perform practice-oriented empirical research; constantly evolving, involved in the development of child welfare policy, with underlying Christian morality in their activities.
Learning outcomes:
1. The graduate will know the psychosocial problems of a child and his/her family and their complex manifestation; the graduate will be well versed in social policy, social security measures, administration of social services and will be able to apply this knowledge in the field of child welfare and social security.
2. The graduate will be able to carry out practice-oriented empirical research and to apply the research results to the solution of specific psychosocial problems in the field of child welfare and social security.
3. The graduate will be able to manage the process of social assistance provided to a child and his/her family by applying appropriate methods of social work in accordance with the national and international legislation on child welfare, protection of children’s rights, family law and social security as well as professional ethics.
4. The graduate will be able to prepare and implement preventive and interventional projects in the organizations of social services functioning in the fields of child welfare and social security.
5. The graduate will be able to communicate with the client(s), cooperate with representatives from his/her field or other professions as well as relevant institutions in Lithuanian or foreign language in pursuit of the empowerment and social welfare for the child and the family.
6. The graduate will be able to evaluate and improve his/her professional activities critically, to reflect on his/her professional growth with Christian morality underlying his/her activities.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Theoretical lecture, active teaching / learning methods (exercises, group discussion, brainstorming, role play, situation modeling, pair work, group work), research methods (information search, literature analysis, research project preparation, empirical data analysis, report preparation and presentation), case study, self - study, counseling, video analysis and discussion, self - reflection, practice diary, institutional visits and analysis of their activities.

achievements:
The College applies cumulative assessment. The components of the cumulative assessment assess certain study results provided in the study subject programme. The studies of each subject or module are completed with an exam or an assessment of the student's independent work (project). The final grade consists of the components of the cumulative assessment defined in the subject programme.

The student is given 10 credits for optional subjects. Students are free to choose two subjects from the list of optional subjects provided by the College. They may also choose to have certain subjects from subjects taught in other study programmes or in other higher education institutions.
Distinctive features of a study
programme:
During 3 full-time or 4 part-time studies, social work specialists are trained who are able not only to organize and provide specific social services to different groups of clients, but also to manage social service organizations. Specialists are trained who are familiar with the development of social services, management of social service institutions, programmes and projects. The aim is for graduates to be able to function effectively in management positions in social service institutions.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates of the Social Work Management study programme are qualified professionals prepared to work in the practical field of social work, which is carried out in various Kolping University of Applied Sciences social partner institutions, organizations, communities providing social services to empower individuals or groups. Students of the Social Work Management study programme are prepared to provide social services, manage social service institutions and work in social security, education, health, law enforcement, etc. in areas where there are social worker positions, in the public, non-governmental and private sectors.
Access to further study:
The graduates of the College may continue their studies in the second cycle (Master's degree) of higher education in Lithuania and abroad, in accordance with the procedure established by the higher school. Students and graduates are also constantly invited to improve their professional qualifications and update their knowledge at conferences, seminars and professional development courses organized by the Experiencing Training Center at Kolping University of Applied Sciences.
