Summary of the Profile
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare qualified professionals in the field of translation who having acquired firm knowledge in Lithuanian, first foreign language (English), good knowledge in the second language (German/French), fundamental knowledge in English Philology and developed analytical skills, IT competences will be able to qualitatively translate the AVT production and successfully adapt it to target groups.
Learning outcomes:
The graduate has subject specific competences listed below: communication in English at C1–C2 level; theoretical knowledge in the field of translation, practical skills in the field of audiovisual translation (dubbing, subtitling, surtitling, voice-over, adaptation of the audiovisual production for the people with special needs such as sound description); communication skills and knowledge of the Lithuanian language, specific knowledge and skills in the field of information technology; communication in the second foreign language (German) at B1 level and in the third foreign language (Russian or French) at A2 level; fundamental knowledge in the field of English Philology; awareness of history and culture of the English-speaking countries; perception of audiovisual art. The graduate has further detailed general competences: fundamentals of research, working in a team, personal development and compliance with professional ethics guidelines.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Explanatory and problem-based instruction, individual and team work, discussion, self-study tasks in written and oral form, text analysis and discussion, analysis of audiovisual recordings, presentations, translation applying special software, pronunciation and prosody practices, phonetic, prosodic and visual analysis of audiovisual texts, voice recording, comparative analysis of source and target texts, collection of special translation cases, corpora-based comparative analysis, text translation with the focus on the underlying meaning, team project in the field of audiovisual translation, translation practice in different institutions.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The cumulative assessment will encourage students to continuously study throughout the module. The following methods of assessment of learning achievements are applied: exams, projects, control works, tests, essay writing, presentations and reports, work and activities during seminars, case study, analysis of studied scientific material, home tasks, research work. Self-study includes: homework assignments, essay and report writing, reading and analysing scientific literature, academic research conducted writing individual and team projects and BA thesis.

The programme consists of the following course unit groups: 1) the first Foreign Language (English), 2) the Lithuanian Language, 3) Audiovisual Translation, 4) English Philology, 5) Information Technology, 6) the second Foreign Language.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The programme is interdisciplinary; it embraces Translation Studies, Philology and Information Technology Studies. The curriculum structure consists mainly of practical classes in the state-of-the-art specialized Audiovisual Translation labs. English Philology Studies are integrated into the programme. The majority of the courses are taught in English, whereas the courses in Informatics, Media Art are taught in Lithuanian. During Semester 8 students gain practical experience in various organisations.

The graduate of the study programme Audiovisual Translation can pursue a career in: film subtitling in TV or cinema; film dubbing and voice-over in TV or cinema; video game localisation, software localisation; media translation and editing; international and foreign companies as translator/interpreter; institutions of EU as translator/interpreter.

Master‘s studies in the field of Translation or other programmes.
