Summary of the Profile

General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: To train wellness and resort services managers who are able to identify consumer and market needs, plan and organize activities of these services providers, and develop and present products that meet the concept of wellness as a lifestyle by communicating professionally and responsibly in a multicultural business environment.

Learning outcomes: Study programme graduates:
1. Will apply in professional activities the main theories and principles of economics, management, resort science and wellness services.
2. Will follow the legal acts that regulate the performance of wellness and SPA services providers to assure provision of safe and high-quality services.
3. Will apply the concepts and principles of sustainable development and responsible business in professional activities.
4. Will conduct the research of business environment and wellness as well as SPA services market by applying chosen methods, systemize and evaluate research findings.
5. Will analyse the business environment and changes taking place in it, innovations in the provision methods and technologies of wellness services as well as their application possibilities.
6. Will plan and organize the activities of wellness and SPA service providers by identifying the systems and principles of evaluation and control.
7. Will identify the need and sources of resources necessary for provision of resort and wellness services.
8. Appreciating the variety of wellness and SPA services, will develop and present a competitive product that meets client’s needs and expectations.
9. Will responsibly and professionally communicate with the market participants by applying business communication principles and regulations and taking into account intercultural peculiarities.
10. Will independently develop professional and personal skills taking into account the constantly altering sensitive to changes professional environment and demonstrating responsibility for the impact of the performance and its results.

Activities of teaching and learning: Lectures, seminars, discussions, debates, individual and group practical exercises, self-written papers, video views, open to the public the results of presentations, workshops plants, design and research works, case (problem situations) analysis, preparation of articles, integrated tasks.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements: The System of Accumulative Assessment is used. Methods of assessment: individual/group integrated projects or/and course/ research papers, tests, reports, exams, report on a case study and its presentation, report on a video situation and its presentation, project report, presentation of individual assignments, portfolio method, individual/group integrated self-study assignment, observation of a task performance, project group presentation, presentation of individual self-study assignments, final thesis.

Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training:
General module of Collegial studies – 15 credits:
Economics (Microeconomics and Macroeconomics; Applied Mathematics and Statistics; Basics of Applied Research).
Study field modules - 150 credits:
1. Study modules (105 credits):
Business Communication (Business Philosophy; Basics of Document and IT Management; Communication Psychology; Professional English I); Basics of Public Health (Basics of Human Anatomy and Physiology; Public Health Policy; Resort Science; 2nd Foreign Language (Russian/German/French); Business Management (Management; Marketing; Accounting and Finance); Wellness and Tourism Services (Wellness Philosophy; Wellness Services and their Provision Technologies; Spa Services; Tourism and Hospitality Services); Basics of Law and Entrepreneurship (Business Law; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Change Management; Professional English II); Spa Services Management (Organization of Accommodation Services in the Spa Sector; Organization of Wellness Services in the Spa Sector; Organization of Catering Services in the Spa Sector; 2nd Foreign Language (Russian/German/French)); Optional Modules: Sustainable Development (Sustainable Tourism; Intercultural Communication; Social Responsibility; Customer Management); Business Project Management (Intercultural Communication, Project Management, Business Risk Management).
2. Practical training (30 credits): Professional Internship I (15 Credits), Professional Internship II (15 Credits).
3. Final Thesis (Final Internship, Final Project) (15 Credits).

Optional courses:
Students can choose:
One of the Optional Modules (15 credits): Sustainable Development Business Project Management; 2nd Business Foreign Language (Russian, German, French);
One of free elective modules (15 credits), e.g.
Sustainability and Travel, Wellness and Health Quality, Russian Language and Culture, Active Leisure Organisation, , French and Spanish Language and Culture, Personality and Career, etc.

Distinctive features of a study programme: Study programme is based on the modular principle that allows to ensure the interdisciplinary of studies, flexible learning environment, enhance the student’s role in the study process, encourage his/her independence, activeness, responsibility for one’s learning outcomes, integrate the practical and self-study assignments. The programme responds to rapid development of wellness and SPA services; develops ability to work with applied business management software packages; wide possibilities for studying and practical training abroad.

Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: Graduates will be ready to work in sanatoriums, wellness, spa, rehabilitation centres, hotels and other hospitality and tourism enterprises, leisure and recreation centres, physical therapy clinics, as well as in the companies/organizations that pursue worksite wellness; they will be able to start and develop their own business.

Access to further study: The graduates are entitled to a credit transfer system for entering level one university study programmes, they can choose Master programmes. The continuation of studies is possible in the study programmes in the field of tourism and leisure, management, business in Lithuanian and/or foreign universities.
