Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train a professional musician of the chosen specialisation, able to prepare and publicly perform works of various styles and genres as solo pieces or ensembles and/or orchestras of various compositions, who knows the musical repertoire of the chosen specialisation from historical and theoretical points of view and is able to communicate and cooperate as well as to develop concert activity.

Learning outcomes:
The graduate will know and be able to describe the most important elements of a music language and structural features of music, understand their interaction, be able to read the musical notation freely and methodically analyse the structure, compositional technique and stylistics of a musical phenomenon and detail specific elements of music language, style and performance technique.
The graduate will know the main facts of music history, the most striking works of music, stylistic features of the main epochs of music, traditions of interpretation of music of the chosen specialisation and international performance standards.
Graduates will be able to anticipate the concept of interpretation of a musical work (s) based on theoretical knowledge and performance practice, and to convey the musical idea artistically and persuasively by employing the chosen means of performance art.
The graduate will be able to improvise, arrange and adapt musical works, and use other creative means of music as and however much is required by the specifics of the chosen specialisation belonging to the field of performing arts.
The graduate will be able to perform musical works as soloists and in ensembles of various compositions, demonstrating the understanding of the requirements of the chosen specialisation and the specific context of the musical work, and will reveal these abilities by completing the programme (s) of the final art project.
The graduate will be able to select and use the most effective instrument/vocal and/or body control and performance techniques and (if necessary) technical and technological means for the preparation and performance of music programmes of the chosen specialisation.
The graduate will have accumulated a representative concert repertoire of a volume corresponding to the requirements of the bachelor’s programme of the chosen specialisation and the experience of its public performance in at least two different (cultural, social) contexts.
The graduate will be able to develop the experience gained during the studies by focusing on the perspectives of music art and professional activity; will be able to present the planned guidelines of professional and creative activity in the portfolio of achievements together with the final art project (s).
The graduate will be able to communicate and collaborate effectively and ethically with other musicians and/or artists from other fields, especially when preparing and implementing at least two chosen musical and/or interdisciplinary projects.
The graduate will be able to express ideas fluently and argumentatively in both oral and written forms when presenting artistic ideas or discussing various aspects of music composition, performance, perception and other issues related to the profession of a musician.
The graduate will be able to use written and audio sources of information, purposefully select information, analyse it and use it to substantiate and develop artistic ideas.
In order to achieve his/her goals, the graduate will be motivated and able to independently anticipate goals, plan and organise his/her activities in the context of studies and choose appropriate artistic, organisational and methodological means to achieve the goal.
The graduate will be able to effectively apply his/her imagination, intuition, emotional perception, ability to think quickly and work creatively, especially when solving problems related to the implementation of at least two chosen different projects (musical, interdisciplinary, social, etc.).

Activities of teaching and learning:
Main teaching and learning methods: Overview of information sources and audio-visual materials, analysis of musical text, individual and group exercises, rehearsals, seminars, discussion, case study, portfolio method, work in small groups (ensembles), individual work, observation, project activities, art research, as well as preparation and defence of a written work, report, portfolio of achievements and an art project.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The evaluation of student’s performance is based on a cumulative grading system, i.e., the final grade is composed of the evaluation of intermediate tests and the final examination.
Methods of assessing study results: formative (work during group and individual sessions) and cumulative (summative) assessment: presentation of technical/artistic performance skills, audition, evaluation of technical skills, recital, concert, oral/written examination, test, report, colloquium, essay, speech, achievement portfolio, defence.
The evaluation of the examinations and the defence of the Final Thesis is based on the 10-point grading system. The tests are evaluated on a pass-fail grading system.

Study subjects (modules), practical training:
Subjects of the field of the study programme, general university subjects, optional subjects, subjects of the field of the minor studies, internship, Final Art Project.

Specialisations:
Specialisations in Vilnius – Accordion, Choral Conducting, Vocal Performance, Jazz, Wind Orchestra Conducting, Symphony Orchestra Conducting, Harpsichord, Lithuanian Folk Instruments, String Instruments, Wind and Percussion Instruments, Organ.
Specialisations in Klaipėda – Choral Conducting and Organ Studies, Jazz and Popular Music, Musical, String Instruments (Guitar).

Distinctive features of a study programme:
Gaining international experience by choosing part-time studies abroad through exchange programmes is encouraged. Improvement of subject-related competencies in a non-formal way (by participating in master classes, concert activities, competitions) and cooperation with artists from other fields as well as participation in interdisciplinary projects of art industries and international activities are encouraged. There is a possibility to choose a minor study programme of pedagogy and to obtain a pedagogue’s qualification.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates are able to work as music performers (soloists and/or ensemble, orchestra artists, concertmasters, illustrators, tutors) in art groups, cultural and educational institutions, as well as to independently develop creative activities.
In terms of demand in the labour market and the interests of employers, professional music artists are also needed in various fields of cultural and creative industries as well as in musical instruction and education institutions.
Having chosen minor pedagogy studies and acquired the qualification of a pedagogue, graduates can work as teachers in children’s music (art) schools and conservatories.

Access to further study:
Bachelors of the Music Performance study programme can continue their education in the master’s degree studies in the field of music (which belong to the field of art studies) and in this way improve the competencies of music performers acquired in the bachelor’s studies and combine art practice studies with art research.
