General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Physiotherapy study programme is aimed to train physiotherapy specialists with higher college education who individually or in a team of rehabilitation specialists should provide health care services, including a examination and assessment of a person‘s functional and physical health state, treatment by motion and physical agents, disability compensation, disease and injury prevention, healthy lifestyle promotion and education.
Learning outcomes:
To disseminate and apply general and subject-specific knowledge of physiotherapy covering the national health care and rehabilitation policy, professional cooperation and communication, the principles of applied research and ethics, , and the methods for the patient/client testing, assessing and treatment, with the emphasis on the problem-solving. To demonstrate social responsibility when strengthening the image of the profession of physiotherapy and educating a patient/client to take responsibility for his/her own health. To manage information technologies and behave professionally with confidential information. To plan, implement and perform goal-oriented physiotherapy examination and assessment, as well as formulate the physiotherapy diagnosis and prognosis. To make an individual physiotherapy plan based on physiotherapy diagnosis, considering the patient's/client's (a group, community) needs. Systematically and individually perform physiotherapy procedures and critically assess their effects. To supplement, accumulate and analyse professional documentation considering ethical, deontological and legal principles. To assess and analyse professional activity results through cooperation with patients/clients and/their families. To foster healthy lifestyles, apply health protection measures and carry out preventive activities. To critically assess a personal professional practice, take care of professional self-improvement, develop job-oriented qualities and perform one's job professionally, observing the principles of critical thinking and life-long learning. To communicate and cooperate with colleagues, patients/clients, groups and a community verbally and in a written form, when considering the principles of ethics and citizenship. In practical activities to observe the principles of equal opportunities, diversity awareness, professional responsibility and mutual trust in a physiotherapist-patient/client relationship. To plan, carry out and disseminate practice-oriented empirical physiotherapy research, to solve the problems of rehabilitation through expanding one's own professional activities and implementing health care and rehabilitation innovations.

Access to professional activity:
The qualification gives access to work as a physiotherapist in health care institutions, in educational institutions for disabled children, institutions offering rehabilitation services, SPA and wellness, guest houses, facilities dealing with prosthetic appliances, orthopedic and technical aids, foster homes, elderly people’s homes, executive bodies.
Access to further study:
After completion of bridge courses or fulfilling other requirements of the accepting institution, access to the second cycle university studies.
