General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Occupational Therapy study programme is aimed to train rehabilitation specialists of higher education college studies who individually or in a team of rehabilitation specialists should provide health care services including restoration and maintenance of patients’ abilities and compensation of impairments by purposeful activity (everyday, occupation, recreational) seeking to help patients to live independently, taking into consideration their wishes, needs and set requirements.
Learning outcomes:
To use information and communication technology tools in searching and processing information. To accumulate, interpret and regularly apply scientific achievements. To demonstrate verbal and written communication skills and appreciate cultural differences. To demonstrate the skills of applied research performance. To disseminate and apply general knowledge in practice, considering problem-solving. To work independently and focus on self-critical thinking. To estimate new situations and activities, make appropriate decisions and apply them properly. To explain the basic theoretical framework of the subject, its nature and the relationship with health, the purpose of professional activity, composition of the human body, its functions and the relationship with the environment and activities. To explain the importance of the relationship between the society's health, social cohesion, labour rights and community, and the environment. To evaluate a person's mental, physical, spiritual and social needs and opportunities on the basis of a holistic approach. To prepare and apply Occupational Therapy programme aimed at ensuring a person's and/or community's well-being, considering health, social situations and/or the environment. To use activities for the reduction of disorders or to search for new techniques, including recovery and creative powers of a person. To identify the impact of environmental factors on work productivity and adapt the environment for people with special needs. To select and apply Occupational Therapy theories and models and carry out activity analysis and synthesis in order to achieve the highest results for each individual or a community. To communicate/cooperate with individuals, a community and other specialists. To demonstrate social partnership. To behave professionally in terms of ethics, deontology and the law. To observe the principles of science and life-long learning. To critically evaluate quantitative and qualitative testing results and follow the evidence-based practice. To learn, organize and plan activities in creating new ideas and adapting to new situations. To introduce Occupational Therapy and provide consultation on its execution. To organize prevention activities. To develop Occupational Therapy services considering the needs of a person/community.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
The clinical practice hours (49 ECTS, 1340 hours) in the curriculum are comparable to most European countries and WCPT recommendations (1000 hours)

Access to professional activity:
The qualification gives access to work as an occupational therapist at health care facilities, at professional rehabilitation facilities, educational institutions for disabled children, special social rehabilitation institutions, foster homes, rest-homes, guest houses, facilities dealing with prosthetic appliances, orthopedic and technical aids, institutions for disabled people, municipality subdivisions.
Access to further study:
After completion of bridge courses or fulfilling other requirements of the accepting institution, access to the second cycle university studies.
