Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare interior designer being able to create and develop interior design concept, prepare a project, contribute to its creation and implementation, work successfully in the competitive market conditions and develop in professional activity.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and its application:
Will understand the basic interior design concepts and definitions, historical and modern development of design branches, will be able to apply knowledge in the practical artistic activity. Will be able to apply knowledge and skills in the field and interdisciplinary studies, professional activity, creatively use means of visual expression, the latest technologies and equipment in practical implementation of ideas. Will know design management principles, will be able to apply them in the implementation of creative projects. Will be able to apply knowledge about health and safety requirements related to the specific design activity.
Competences to carry out research:
Will be able to recognise, compare and critically evaluate actual design phenomena and tendencies. Will be able to collect and analyse data for solving problems of artistic creation, referring to modern design practice and research. Will be able to analyse, evaluate and generalise information, which is needed for formulation of decisions, argumentation and making of conclusions. Will be able to carry out design research and apply it for implementation of creative design ideas.
Special skills:
Will be able to develop ideas for design projects, to present proposals and make decisions both independently and in a team, in a professional and/or in interdisciplinary context. Will be able to plan, organise, assess and implement practical requirements for design projects in concrete professional activities. In the light of personal creative experience and of the results of other designers‘work, will be able to experiment while developing design projects. Will understand characteristics of graphic design field and the ways it links to other art fields, will be able to apply knowledge of historical, ethical and conceptual contexts when developing design projects. Will be able to present creative ideas and (or) projects with the help of visual communication and digital information technologies on the national and international levels. Will be able to apply theoretical knowledge and technological skills in practical activity. Will be able to use means of artistic expression, newly emerging media and innovative technologies in creation works and design practice projects. Will be able to comprise a portfolio of creative work.
Social skills:
Will be able to communicate with colleagues, potential clients and the general public solving professional tasks within Interior Design study field branch.
Will understand designer-client, business, consumer, contributors and collaborators’ relations and will be able to apply this knowledge designing, implementing and presenting the art work or design project in public.
Will be able to communicate in community and public in oral or written form in state and foreign language(s).
Will be able to work in a team, take responsibility for the quality of their and their subordinates‘ activity in accordance with professional ethics and citizenship.
Personal skills:
Will be able to study individually, make decisions, solve problems, adapt to new situations, plan their activities, meet the deadlines, will have entrepreneurship skills.
Will comprehend moral responsibility for the results of their creative activities, their impact on society, economic and cultural development and environment.
Will be able to evaluate their strengths in a reasonable manner, will comprehend the importance of lifelong learning.
Teaching and learning activities:
Lectures, consultations, practical tasks and course papers, individual work, practices of professional activities. Students accomplish practical tasks individually or in groups.
Methods of assessment of learning outcomes:
The student‘s knowledge, skills and abilities acquired while studying subjects of a study programme are assessed after completing of individual assignments performed during the semester and exam session. The achieved learning outcomes after completion of subject/module studies are assessed attributing them to the levels of achievement: excellent, typical and threshold.

Foreign Language, Professional Lithuanian, Environmental and Human Safety and alternatively optional subjects (Sociology, Psychology, Professional Ethics – selected one of them).

Drawing and Painting, Engineering Graphics, History of Interior Design, Computer Aided Design 1, Computer Aided Design 2, Computer Aided Design 3, Material Lab, Applied Research, Structures of Buildings, History of Culture, Interior Designing 4, Engineering Facilities 2, Creative Business, modules: Basics of Designing 1 (module subjects: Composition, Colour Theory, Basics of Designing), Basics of Designing 2 (module subjects: Basics of Interior Designing, 3D Composition, Computer Modelling), Designing 1 (module subjects: Interior Designing 1, Lighting Design , Visualization Practice 1), Designing 2 (module subjects: Interior Designing 2, Design of Interior Facilities 1, Decoration, Visualization Practice 1), Designing 3 (module subjects: Interior Designing 3, Design of Interior Facilities 2, Engineering Facilities 1), Management of Design.
Special Study Subjects:
Law, optional subjects by choice of students (Form and Tectonics, Visualisation Software, Art Workshops 1, Experimental Drawing, Painting Techniques, Graphic Techniques, Architectural Drawing, History of Modern Art, Aesthetics, Calligraphy, Rhetorical Communication, Photography – selected three of them), Final work.
Practices:
Cognitive Practice, Creative-Ethnographic Practice, Professional Practice, Final Practice.
Completion of Studies:
Studies are completed by defending the Final work individually prepared by a student.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The study programme responds to the needs of today's society, design, technology, engineering innovations and capabilities. Joint projects with social stakeholders and various communities have been implemented. Cooperation with businesses and professionals, professional internships at the country's best architects and designers’ companies provides the opportunity for self-improvement. Students of the programme participate in various workshops and competitions not only in Lithuania, but also abroad.
Access to professional activity or further study:
Interior design specialist will be able to perform creative work individually – to create business, to lead the team, composed of specialists from various areas with different competences. Job skills will guarantee the ability to be integrated into professional environment, possibility to update professional competences in other higher education institutions in Lithuania and abroad.
The graduate can continue his/her studies having chosen university study programmes in the field of Design.
