Summary of the Profile

Objectives(s) of a study programme:
1. To educate personality with critical and modern thinking, with scientific and professional competency in the field of biology of laboratory medicine, who is able to solve problems of interdisciplinary field and to work effectively in a team when circumstances which lack detailed information occur, to summarize and clearly present the scientific and professional information in field of biology of laboratory medicine for persons with different education.
2. To develop specialist with master's degree in medical biology who is able to apply the acquired knowledge, abilities and skills in practice of clinical laboratory diagnostic and research field.
Learning outcomes:
1. Will be able to think abstractly, to analyze and summarize information, to react to the changes of situation;
2. Will be able to work in teams and achieve common goals in the field of biology of laboratory medicine, will be able to organize team work, to plan work tasks for team members (practitioners and/or researchers who are not professionals in the field of laboratory medicine), to plan the work time, material quantities and expenses, to motivate team members;
3. Will be able to communicate and demonstrate professional competence and practical experience in the field of practical work, in formal and non-formal education.
4 Will be able to organize laboratory activities in accordance with regulatory requirements;
5. Will be able to organize and carry out quality control tests;
6. Will be able to choose and to prepare biological materials appropriate to the lab methodology and the clinical situation;
7. Will be able to choose the methods and laboratory equipment for analysis, will be able to perform manual and instrumental laboratory tests in accordance with legislative requirements, approved methodologies;
8. Will be able to evaluate and interpret laboratory tests results in conjunction with laboratory methodology and prea-nalytical, analytical, post-analytical considerations;
9. Will be able to follow the requirements of medical ethics and deontology, critically evaluate the extent of their own competence, the consequences of their own activities and responsibility for them in regard on ethical and social issues.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Lectures, practical work, laboratory work, seminars, self-learning, preparation of the final master‘s thesis.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Formative (informal) assessment and summative assessment, based on the cumulative score, are applied. Each course (module) unit is completed with an exam or project work presentation and evaluation.
The study program is completed with a final exam and defense of Master's thesis.

course units of study fields – General biochemistry, Common principles of clinical laboratory diagnostics and laboratory test methodologies, Human physiology, Transplant immunology, Medical microbiology and virology, Infectious diseases, serological and molecular diagnostics and/or
course units of general university education – Fundamental epidemiology and data analysis methods, Philosophy and biomedical diagnostics.
