Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train highly qualified biotechnology management professionals that are capable to integrally understand, create and manage modern technological environments and human resources to implement and give meaning to their potential, as well as their organizational, communication, legal, personal value aspects and their innovative and creative universalization, which allows the acquisition of strategic management skills and skills to adopt innovative solutions in a rapidly changing biotechnology environment.

Learning outcomes:
Capability to analyze biotechnology and biomedical research institutes in the light of the increasing dynamics, the commercialization potential, competing needs and strategic opportunities arising from the global business environment and global development trends.
Competence to work in technological environments and contexts of heterogeneous changes using biotechnology commercialization opportunities through holistic management paradigms, methodologies and latest social technologies.
Knowledge to assess the strategic direction of biotechnology business, combine technological breakthroughs with socio-economic needs through interdisciplinary knowledge and research methodologies.
Abilities to organize the evaluation of modern biotechnology research and work, analyze their applications for economic and social value creation, predict opportunities for commercialization, create modern scientific environments and effective managerial forms of interaction, to plan strategies for their solution, apply the holistic approach in making managerial decisions.
Abilities to understand how biotechnology business management forms the competitive environment and how additional value is created on the business and all other levels of knowledge-based economy.
Abilities to organize and manage biotechnological teams, technological platforms and make decisions in complex changing environments, develop and manage biotechnology business development projects.
Abilities to scientifically analyze the creative solutions of biotechnology business and evaluate the development potential, justify and form innovative biotechnology business ideas and creative solutions for their implementation, carry out the innovative projects for biotechnology business, while integrating accumulated knowledge in new and unfamiliar environments and global multicultural contexts.
Abilities to organize and manage biotechnological teams, technological platforms and make decisions in complex environments, develop and manage biotechnology business development projects.
Abilities to socially responsibly use biotechnology business management knowledge and organize biotechnology research, creatively using the modern decision-making methods while taking into account the legal and ethical environment.
Abilities to master modern biotechnology business models formation, innovative management, cost-effectiveness, project preparation and implementation, and dissemination techniques, and combinations and forms of their applications in micro and macro levels, as well as to be able to strategically plan for the biotechnology business processes in the global knowledge economy.
Abilities to purposefully and independently take interest in achievements of biotechnology and biomedical industry, biotechnology business opportunities and models, their trends and perspectives in Lithuania and the world; to interpret the diverse technological and business information, to integrate, recreate and use it for the competitive advantage and to create new solutions, innovations, processes, products and services.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Student orientated self-study methods, promoting critical thinking; discussion and group work methods, emphasizing teacher‘s leadership; problem teaching, emphasizing teacher‘s work; methods of problem analysis based on problem solving; literature analysis methods based on insights; problematic seminar‘s tasks, based on group work.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Exams, practical assignments (projects, written papers, research presentations, case studies), intermediate tasks (colloquia, tests)
