General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare radiologic technologists who are able to perform radiological procedures, assess the acceptability and quality of diagnostic images, solve practical-scientific problems, disseminate their professional activities, cooperate in a multidisciplinary team, continuously learn and improve in their professional field.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and its application:
1. Students are familiar with human anatomy, physiological and pathological processes in the body; have knowledge of medicine and health, natural and social sciences, are able to apply it when solving theoretical and practical tasks.
2. Students are familiar with the technologies used for radiological procedures, the principles of operations and use of equipment, the technology of obtaining radiological images related to diagnostic acceptability and quality.
3. Students understand the essence and principles of radiological procedures, the effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on the human body and the principles of radiation safety.
4. Students are familiar with the basics of document preparation, management, accountance and medical statistics in health care institutions and apply this knowledge in professional activities.
Research skills:
1. Students are able to use information technologies and resources, search for professional information, perform applied research, analyze and apply results when solving scientific and practical problems.
Special abilities:
1. Students are able to prepare the patient for a radiological procedure, to select appropriate means for their performance according to diagnostic and treatment protocols.
2. Students are able to prepare the workplace and medical equipment; students understand the principles of its operation and maintenance, apply the requirements of quality control and the principles of occupational and radiation safety.
3. Students are able to perform radiological procedures and other actions requiring medical technology and / or nursing knowledge in accordance with approved protocols, following the appointment of a radiologist.
4. Students are able to analyze the impact of various factors on work results, apply the principles of correction and prevention of non-conformities, ensuring the safety of workers, patients and society.
Social skills:
1. Students are able to cooperate with health care professionals and others, work individually and in a team, take responsibility for solving professional tasks, follow professional and citizenship ethics.
2. Students are able to disseminate their professional practice to the public, promote a healthy lifestyle, assess the environment and human safety, consult health care professionals and patients in accordance with their professional competence.
Personal skills:
1. Students are able to rationally plan their time and work, make decisions; students realize the moral responsibility for the impact of their activities and results on the well-being of society.
2. Students are able to critically assess their professional practice, reflect on their professional development; students realize the importance of lifelong learning.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Innovative teaching and learning methods are used: traditional and interactive lectures, lectures by visiting lecturers (practitioners), study tours and working visits, seminars, laboratory works, information retrieval and summarization tasks, case studies, problem analyses, work with simulation models, individual and group projects, discussions. The student's independent work is based on tasks and teamwork, in which critical thinking is very important. The programme aims at the active participation of students in the study process and to find ways to solve problems
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Knowledge and skills are assessed applying a cumulative ten-point rating system. Study results are evaluated during the interim scorings (assessment of tests, individual and group assignments and their presentations, defending projects, practical and self-study works, etc.). The final evaluation (mark) includes scoring of the interim assessments and examination.

Study subjects (modules), practical training:
General college study subjects – 15 credits: Foreign Language (Latin, Lithuanian), Professional Foreign Language, Basics of Psychology, Information Technology.
Study field subjects include -135 credits:
Study subjects (84 credits): Anatomy, Physiology; Introduction to Radiology Studies. Professional Ethics, Pathology, Microbiology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, First Aid. Basics of Nursing and Medical Procedures, Basics of Clinical Subjects, Physics, Biophysics; Anatomy of Radiology, Radiological Safety. Radiobiology; Radiography, Basics of Public Health. Medical Law; Applied Research Radiology, Computed Tomography, Nuclear Medicine and Radionuclide Investigations. Practices (41 credits): Professional Internship of Patient Care and Nursing, Professional Internship of X-ray Diagnostics, Professional Internship of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging; Final Professional Internship.
Professional Bachelor Thesis (10 credits).
Optional study subjects – 30 credits.

Optional courses:
Optional courses include 30 credits. 21 credits are devoted to Courses of Deeper Studies of the Same Study Field / Courses of the Studies of Another Field: Genetics; Radiotherapy. Oncological Diseases; Fundamentals of Pharmacology, Radiological Pharmacology; Interventional Radiology. Magnetic resonance imaging.
Freely elective subjects – 9 credits. Study program offers: Basics of Administration, Health Education and Healthy Lifestyle, Genetic Engineering in Medicine. Students are free to choose other subjects which are taught at Kauno kolegija/ University of Applied Sciences study programs from the list of freely elective subjects in Study management system.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
Professional training practices will be carried out in various departments of radiology, after appropriate theoretical and practical clinical works under the guidance of the practice supervisor (mentor) and consulting of the teacher - practice instructor.

The graduate, having completed the Radiology studies, will be ready for the professional activities – to work independently at the X-ray, Magnetic Resonance, Angiography, Ultrasound, Densitometry, Nuclear Medicine (Gamma Cameras), Radiation Therapy, Interventional Radiology, Interventional Cardiology, Tomography and other radiological departments as a radiology technologist.
Access to further study:
The graduates may pursue the study results to be accredited, if want to continue in the university undergraduate first cycle study programmes. After completion of additional studies or fulfilling other regulations established by the higher school, they are entitled to enroll in post-graduate studies for Master's Degree in universities of Lithuania or abroad.
