Summary of the Profile of study programme

General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: The aim of the study programme is to train critically thinking and creative managers, who are capable of working individually and/or team in different areas of cultural and leisure services; investigating the needs of the cultural and leisure environment; planning, organising and implementing cultural and leisure activities ensuring their quality and dissemination.
Learning outcomes: Study programme graduates:
Graduates will:
1. Know and apply knowledge of management science theories and legal regulation principles of business companies and other entities in the activities of a sustainable organization or its unit.
2. Apply the knowledge of culture and leisure management to make and implement rational management decisions in the field of culture and leisure.
3. Analyse the performance of an organization and its departments, assess the impact of internal and external environmental factors on the achievement of organizational goals.
4. Assess the environment of culture and leisure business, the quality of cultural and leisure performance; analyse applied research of cultural and leisure activities conducted by other researchers, independently collect, systematize and interpret data obtained and use it for decision making.
5. Plan, organise, carry out and assess the performance of a cultural and leisure organisation and independently choose management methods and tools, financial, human and other needed resources.
6. Organise events, develop and manage cultural and leisure projects.
7. Develop cultural and leisure products, coordinate its implementation and dissemination process.
8. Be able to work in a team, communicate and collaborate in the national and international professional environment.
9. Represent an institution in Lithuania and abroad, forming a proper image of the organization.
10. Plan their personal professional career, develop creativity, critical thinking when addressing business issues and building positive relationships with colleagues.
11. Critically assess quality of their activities in accordance with the principles of social responsibility and professional ethics.
Activities of teaching and learning: Lectures, seminars, discussions, debates, individual and group practical exercises, self-written papers, video views, open to the public the results of presentations, workshops plants, design and research works, case (problem situations) analysis, preparation of articles, integrated tasks. Educational environment is created in order to enable students to self-control their study process, reflect on their activities and encourage creativity and innovation. During lectures, attempts are made to create environment for discussions; and a dialogue between the teacher and the student is encouraged.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements: The System of Accumulative Assessment is used. Methods of assessment: individual/group integrated projects or/and course/ research papers, tests, reports, exams, report on a case study and its presentation, report on a video situation and its presentation, project report, presentation of individual assignments, portfolio method, individual/group integrated self-study assignment, presentation of idea mapping, project group presentation, presentation of individual self-study assignments, essay, final thesis.
Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training:
General studies - 15 credits:
Business Communication (Professional Foreign Language I, Basics of Document and IT Management, Language Culture and Public Speaking, Communication Psychology).
Study field modules - 150 credits.
1. Study modules (105 credits):
History and Policy of Culture (History and Philosophy of Culture, Policy of Culture, Basics of Law and Intellectual Property Law), Organization and Management (Management, Marketing, Accounting and Taxes); Economics (Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Basics of Applied Research), Management and Leisure Events (Event Management, Creative Industries, Stage Speech and Movement, Professional Foreign Language II), Management of Cultural Projects (Management of Cultural Projects and Fundraising, Organisation of Sociocultural Performance, Cultural Tourism and Ethno-Culture), Management of Cultural and Leisure Organization (Strategic Management of Cultural and Leisure Organizations, Management of Human Resources, Innovation Management and Leadership, Professional Foreign Language III), Communication and Media Tools (Public Relations, Advertising Planning and Organisation, Media and Technologies, Art of Public Presentation).
2. Practical training (30 Credits): Professional Internship in Leisure Organization (15 Credits), Professional Internship in Culture Organization (15 Credits).
3. Final Thesis (Final Internship, Final Project) (15 Credits)
Optional courses: Students can choose: One of Free Elective Modules (15 credits), e.g. Creative Personality, From Idea to Business, Personality and Career, Management of Relations with Customers, Global Economics, Wellness and Health Quality, Active Leisure Organization, French and Spanish Language and Culture, Russian Language and Culture, Sustainability and Travel etc.
Distinctive features of a study programme: Study programme is based on the modular principle that allows to ensure the interdisciplinary of studies, flexible learning environment, enhance the student’s role in the study process, encourage his/her independence, activeness, responsibility for one’s learning outcomes, integrate the practical and self-study assignments. The study programme lecturers are specialists with practical experience in culture and leisure business activities. The programme reflects the market needs; is orientated towards problem-based teaching, formation of the systemic approach for the student, socially responsible and ethical business.
Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: The graduates will be able to work in various types of public and private enterprises and organizations providing cultural and leisure services and organising cultural and leisure performance, to establish and develop their own cultural and leisure activities business.
Access to further study: The graduates are entitled to a credit transfer system for entering level one university study programmes, they can choose Master programmes. The continuation of studies is possible in the study programmes in the field of management and business in Lithuanian and/or foreign universities.
