Summary of the Profile of study programme
General Description:
Objective(s) of the study programme:
The aim of Social Pedagogy study programme is to train socially responsible, critically minded and creative specialists, who are able to function independently and/or in cooperation with other participants in the process of education in various spheres of social education and care in the Lithuanian and international context; provide social educational assistance to learners, various groups of learners, their families, and the community of an education institution; and organise preventive activities as well as conduct applied scientific research in order to ensure positive socialisation of various learners' groups.
Learning outcomes:
Graduates will:
1. be able to apply the knowledge acquired while identifying the problems existing in learners' close social environment following the principles of individual approach, equal opportunities, confidentiality, recognition of self-determination, and responsibility;
2. be able to plan the process of social educational assistance and preventive activities in order to ensure positive socialisation of various learners' groups;
3. be able to conduct preventive activities for various groups of learners and their families having anticipated negative phenomena and deeds and striving to prevent them;
4. be able to provide social educational assistance to learners, various groups of learners and their parents as well as communities of education institutions while representing and defending learner's interests as well as informing, advising and counselling learner's family;
5. be able to implement social projects and programmes by mobilising human and material resources and assuming responsibility;
6. be able to evaluate the efficiency of social educational impact and preventive activities on learners, various groups of learners, their families, and the community of the education institution;
7. develop professional competence by judging Lithuanian and international experiences in the spheres of social educational performance.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Innovative teaching and learning methods are applied, and the study process is virtualised. Student-oriented self-study is based on tasks and group activities emphasising problematic and critical thinking. Educational environment is created in order to enable students to self-control their study process, reflect on their activities and encourage creativity and innovation. The programme strives for students’ active participation in the study process. During lectures, attempts are made to create environment for discussions; and a dialogue between the teacher and the student is encouraged.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
A ten score accumulative assessment system for assessing knowledge and skills is used. During a semester, learning outcomes are tested during interim assessments (tests, individual and group tasks and their presentation, the projects performed, presentation of practical and individual tasks, etc.). The final score consists of interim assessments and the examination score.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
The distinguishing feature of the study programme of Social Pedagogy is a holistic attitude towards the specialist trained, which is based on the interdisciplinary approach to the study courses offered. The framework of the study programme is based on socio-educational activities in the field.
Access to professional activity or further study:
Access to professional activity:
People, who have acquired the qualification of a social pedagogue, can work as social educators in the institutions belonging to the system of social care, Labour Exchange, non-governmental organizations such as Caritas and the Red Cross, social divisions of the departments of education and social affairs, institutions belonging to the system of health care and home affairs.
Access to further study:
Access to the second cycle studies upon meeting requirements set by the accepting higher education institution.
