Summary of the Profile of study programme

General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: To educate physical therapy professional who is able to investigate, assess, and correct individual‘s functional state and self-sufficiency, to select appropriate technical aids, to bring back, support and improve health by movement as well as physical and physic factors on individual and public level while communicating and cooperating in a rehabilitation team. Learning outcomes: ● To assess individual‘s functional state and self-sufficiency, to identify impaired performance, using normative documents and legal acts. ● To use information and communication technologies in applied research. ● To design a physical therapy plan for bringing back, supporting and improving the health of an individual. ● To implement and adjust a physical therapy programme by treating with motion, physical and physic factors and to monitor its effectiveness ● To communicate and to cooperate within a rehabilitation team as well as with other specialists in accordance with the principles of medical ethics, supporting and improving health. ● To assess the safety of an environment, to disseminate professional experience by carrying out personal and public health training ● To assess an individual as physical and social whole by developing creative and work skills. Activities of teaching and learning: active lecture, group discussion, seminars, tests, oral and written reflections, group work, case study, watching films, demonstration, analysis of documents, role games, analysis of practical situation, creative methods, project work, graphic imagery, professional practice, reflection, etc. Methods of assessment of learning achievements: Cumulative assessment is used. Assessment methods: testing, written / oral survey, reflection, case studies, documents analysis, preparation and presentation of a topic, project work, poster presentation, and so on.

Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training: 1. Subjects of general college studies 17 credits: Information Technologies, Foreign Language, Basics of Psychology, Business Economics and Management. 2. Study field subjects 89 credits: Introduction to Physiotherapy Studies, Anatomy, Physiology, Basics of Public Health, First Aid. Basics of Nursing, Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Basics of Pathology, Applied Research. Basics of Statistic, Physiotherapy for Neurological Patients, Basics of Physiotherapy and Differencial Testing. Ergonomics, Creative art Therapies, Classical And Theapeutic Massage, Physiotherapy for Children, Physiotherapy for Pregnant Women and Gynecological Patients, Physiotherapy for Orthopedic, Trauma Patients, Physiotherapy for Therapeutic and Geriatric Patients, Mobilization of Axial Skeleton, Exercise Physiology, Wellness programs. Physiotherapy in Water. Professional Activity Practices and Final practice– 40 credits (Evaluation of Locomotor System – 5 credits, Physiotherapy for Therapeutic, Geriatric and Neurological Patients – 6 credits, Physiotherapy for Children, Pregnant Women and Gynecological Patients. Massage – 9 credits, Final Practice – 20 credits). Final Thesis (7 credits), Final Examination (3 credits). Optional study subjects – 24 credits. Specialisations:- Optional Courses: Optional courses include 24 credits. 15 credits are devoted to Courses of Deeper Studies of the Same Study Field / Courses of the Studies of Another Field: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Mobilization of Limb Joints, Complex Testing and Evaluation of Muscle Chains. 9 credits are for freely elective subjects. Study program offers: Alternative Treatment Methods, Innovative Technologies in Rehabilitation. Students are free to choose other subjects which are taught in Kauno kolegija/ University of Applied Sciences study programs from the list of freely elective subjects in Study management system. Distinctive features of a study programme:

Different methods of physical therapy are studied. Practical classes take place at clinical training places, primary health care, orthopedic institutions, sport and rehabilitation centers. Students are offered the possibility to go for studies or work experience to the institutions of other countries on Erasmus programme (in Estonia, Latvia, Malta, Poland, etc.) Students are provided opportunities to volunteer in their selected area of interest. They can become involved in student government structures which organize a variety of student events and in addressing student problems. Research skills are developed by carrying out individual scientific research. Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: The graduates of physical therapy study programme are employed in the health care institutions of all levels, educational institutions, social rehabilitation institutions; health institutions; social care, foster and nursing institutions. Graduates can set up private practice Access to further study: After the completion of the college study programme of physical therapy and after some additional studies (not longer than 60 credits) graduates can continue their education in level two university study programmes of the same field.
