Summary of the Profile of study programme
General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Objective of social economic geography and regional studies bachelor program is to train specialists of human geography able to research, analyze, manage and model social economic problems of the society and economy, to identify the spatial causes of the problems and to applicate the principles of sustainable development to their solutions, to train specialists of regional development, to implement regional development projects granted by national and EU development programmes.
Learning outcomes:
1. To understand and assess the applications of classical concepts and modern methods applied in social sciences and particularly in Human geography, and for analysis of obtained results and their comparison, practical application, decision making.
2. To obtain the knowledge about population's geodemographic and geopolitical situation and their indices, factors that are influencing the geodemographic structure of the society in Lithuania, in other countries and regions in the world
3. To analyse the diversity and spatial regularities of human economic activities, factors that are influencing these regularities and their interactions with other social-demographic-cultural indices of society while pursuing the tasks of sustainable development.
4. To understand the structure and components of natural geosystems, to know the elements of landscape and its different interactions, to assess the natural resources including both non-renewable and renewable, and methods and measures of their rational use and impact on the environment and society.
5. To understand and to know the methodology of quantitative and qualitative researches, to determine the sequence of geographic methods for societal researches, to determine the intensity of societal and natural processes their causes of and consequences for relations, to know the order to perform sociological questionning of society, different territorial complex researches.
6. To determine and analyse the problems of Lithuania's human resources, economic branches, landuse, urban, rural settlements, landscape, tourism, culture, services, economic, social, territorial problems, to assess and elaborate the stages for solution of geographic problems in society, economy in interaction with natural, social environment, to analyse and understand quantitative and qualitative attributes of the problems, relations, typologies, classifications, hierarchies, causes and consequences.
7. To know the manner of usage of information technologies, to understand digital computerized methods, to perform analysis using Geographic information systems (GIS), Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), to develop geodata bases for execution of researches, to understand the applicaton of cartographic (mapping) methods, to assess and to determine the meanings of modelling processes in the analysis of societal spatial processes.
8. To determine the spatial processes in development of society, to analyse contradictive and concurrent situations, to analyse the interaction between society and nature, economic and political environment, to understand the importance of sustainability principles and their application in decision making, elaboration of alternatives, their maintenance and practical application.

Access to professional activity:
The graduate can work in the municipal institutions (municipalities, neighborhoods), in the agencies of regional development, national parks, recruitment agencies, social care sections, can work as a teacher of geography, GIS specialist, in the travel agencies, as sales' manager, analyst, in the field of transport and logistics, trading, as a consultant for elaboration and administration of national and international projects.

The graduate has access to the second cycle studies (master studies).
